DCS-1000w through Dlink DIR-655 router

No matter what I seem to try I cannot access the default configuration page for this internet camera. I had no problems with my previous Dlink router. I have reset the camera but cannot access the default page at the supposed address (192.168.0.20). I have also tried connecting via a laptop and cross over cable while matching the ip address range but this did not work either. I cannot ping the address from any LAN computer, camera does not appear in IPView software (tells me it's an invalid IP address when adding a camera). Setup wizard does nothing at all and detects no camera. Anyone who can help me with this I would sure appreciate it. Thanks so much.

I have this camera and router. I can see it via ethernet at the camera ip address, but as soon as I disconnect the ethernet I cannot access it wirelessly. I called Dlink and they tried changing the router to 802.11b, setting it to WEP since the camera is not WPA compatable, and removing security altogether. None work. Dlink came back on the line to say this camera is not compatible with this router. I find it hard to believe that they would not have a work around for their own product. I think someone out there is smarter than Dlink tech support. If yo're out there, please share your solution!!

IPview (Version 3.4.1. 200306 12000) will not connect to the DCS-1000W , although if I do an automatic search it actually finds and identifies the Camera IP address , its name , model number and the MAC address correctly. However , when I choose this camera , it refuses to connect saying "Invalid IP address!"

I am using Windows Vista Buiness.

I wonder if this old version of D-Link IPView has problem with Vista only. Anyone tried IPView on Windows XP?

These cameras are touchy. Hold the reset button on the back in for about 20-30 seconds. Bring up the CD software you got with the camera, it should spot the camera right off and you can configure. That seems to be the only way I can communicate with this model. After setup, then browsers, etc seem to work fine. I would also download the latest Firmware and update.

One thing to try is to hard reset the modem and the router. This will work on an unprotected router that won't connect most of the time.
This link is to the data sheet d-link gives for this router. ftp://ftp10.dlink.com/pdfs/products/DIR-655/DIR-655_ds.pdf
This one is to the software and instillation guides they provide. Select your country from the three. Then there is a link to a FAQ below the two download links that will help you find which of the two that you need.

My DIR-655 won't work!

It would be helpful if you could be a bit more specific regarding the way you hooked up the dir 655 to your network and your specifc DSL modem. If the modem you are using is the Actiontec M1000 DSL modem you will not be able to obtain internet access because the DIR 655 is trying to route an already routed IP, the M1000 has a built in router / DHCP that by default is enabled. You can use option 1, access the configuration settings of your M1000 and change the WAN configuration to act as a transparent bridge. After doing so and rebooting the modem you will have to enter your DSL login information like a PPPoE username and password for example into your DIR 655 network settings. With this configuration the modem simply acts as a bridge to relay data directly to the DIR 655 and the 655 itself provides login credentials to obtain internet from your DSL provider as well as hand out IP addresses to the local network. Option 2 is to continue to use the M1000 as a router by default and disable DHCP on your DIR 655 so that it essentially acts as nothing more than a switch or wireless access point while the M1000 hands out local IP addresses. I personally would recommend using the DIR 655 to route IP's as it's got far more configuration utilities than the M1000 does as a router, and really what's the point of getting the 655 if you're only going to use it as a switch or access point when there are other simpler and cheaper devices that could do that for you.

Dlink router with hughesnet

Login in using your browser and go to the wireless settings and set-up a wireless password/key. Remember the key because each device will now need it to connect. You can also turn OFF Broadcast SSID and your network name will not be shown on anyone's device. You must remember the network name when using this method.

You do not need the disc. Using you browser, login into the router using the default IP 192.168.0.1 unless this has been changed and you should be able to configure your router.
