Kenmore sewing machine model 15817740

My machine is over 30 years old. It has a disk (cam) that you drop in and two dials with stiches and sizes. The cam has a green side and a white side which corresponds with the color of the stiches on the dial. Not sure how to make button holes anymore.

I have a sears kenmore sewing machine model 148-13100 where is oil needed?

If it is an older mechanical machine, 1-2 drops oil (ONLY fresh, good quality sewing machine oil) applied every place where metal rubs against metal. AVOID belts, plastic gears, CAMS. Slowly hand-rotate or wiggle the handwheel, watch where metal parts move against each other and apply a couple drops. Be sure to get the top mechanism, the side mechanism where the needlebar is located, and under the sewing surface, ie the feed dogs area. Also, move levers and dials and apply a couple drops where metal rubs metal.

I was given a Kenmore sewing machine 12 stitch model# 158-13521 and I am not sure how to change the dials to get size of stich, or width. I was looking for a manual but I cannot find one. I have found...

Whew, that was a tough one but I found you a deal. If, you go to www.sewconsult.com you can download your manual for $5.95 and they take paypal, which is great. Good luck and happy sewing, I am glad that my sources remembered this site, my usual ones couldn't help.

Inherited old kenmore 10 sewing machine. it is clean and have no problem threading etc. but believe tension and settings are off because back of stiching is pulled and "loopy" what are the correct...

It sounds like your upper tension is too loose. A good place to start adjusting is at the number three on your tension dial, but you need to pay attention to how the stitches look rather than what the number on the dial is. I wrote a Tip on Adjusting Tension. Take a look at that and see if it helps.

Machine will not sew forward without backstitching

You have selected the Stretch Stich (SS) mode on the stitch length regulator, just turn the knob around until you have a number 1 - 5 and that should be it.
The model number will be the last digits on the metal compliance plate with voltage etc.....looks like:
V / 1234 / 123454321 / 2016
www.bargainbox.com.au
This then would be a Model 2016
