My compaq presario R3000 is ~ 4 years old. It will boot up and stay for 1 or 2 minutes only. Even though it shows that power is coming, battery is not charging. I purchased a new battery, but did not work. Any suggestions.
It might as well be a internal problem related to power or loose contacts with RAM or the power chords internally.
Better to go to the technician in this case.

Turn the laptop over, remove the panel over the RAM, remove the DIMMs (it will likely have 2 in it), place one in at a time and try powering the system on.
One of the two is likely bad although it is possible (although very unlikely) that both are bad. It should boot up when the good DIMM is in place. Once you have identified the bad one, buy a replacement or possible choose to upgrade the total amount of RAM.
1 - You may need to roll back system with System Restore. Under Safe Mode (press F8 during boot and choose safe mode). Win 7 - Start > Search type System Restore XP - Is Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Restore. Now choose a date prior to problem. You may have to try a few dates.
2 - Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig. Startup tab and uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when only you initiate.

Most likely in this case, the damage is to the hard drive or its connection to the motherboard. The CQ series though has a three point screw attachment for the hard drive so Im more inclined to think that the shock of the landing has damaged the read/write head on the hard drive. If you happen to have another hard drive for a laptop, try installing a new drive and run the installation disc and see if it will complete and boot completely....if it will then the problem was the old drive.
Try to get in long enough to check for Battery drivers in your system devices,they may need to be reinstalled,as your computer keeps crashing,this may corrupt them.Also try running your laptop with 1 Ram card at a time,you will find the cards located on the bottom of the laptop..just take the screw out till the door opens and leave 1 Ram card in,see if the laptop still acts up....if it does,take that Ram out and try the other one by itself.You may have to get a new plug and solder it in or you can just hold the power plug in with a peice of black electrical tape.Please let me know how you make out :)
Remove the battery and just leave it off the computer, then plug in the power cord and try it. If it works with no battery...the battery is completely dead and you need to replace.
hi.. unfortunately i've seen many cases like this and it looks as if from what you are describing that your laptop is fried if there is no boot up at all.. how old is you laptop and what brand is it?
