Loose / wobbly platter?

The platter wobbles a tiny bit when pressure is applied - the platter sits on the spindle apparatus just fine, it looks like the spindle itself is loose. Will some screw tightening do the trick, or does it sound like a more involved problem? Thanks!

Yep I have the same problem, it wobbles up and down and when you try and drop a track in it skips and definitely should not be doing that!

The platter was hard to take off at first but I managed in the end and nothing looks out of the ordinary. It's hard to know how old the decks are because they were bought from a second hand shop.

This is a common problem. If you have another 1200 turntable, switch out the platters and see if that fixes the problem. Usually, the problem does not carry over.

There is nothing to screw or tighten. You can install a new SPINDLE - and it should fix it. But might not be necessary if you just swap your platters out.

Good luck!

My Audio-Technica AT-LP120 USB is "catching" when spinning, almost something is touching the turntable in one place, slows it down and takes off the right pitch.

Check the simple stuff first. Look at the LP you are playing for scratches. Even a light scratch can affect the player. Check the turntable platter and spindle to see if they are clean and set up correctly. The smallest bit of dirt can affect the turntable. Try this.
Check the playing needle is clean as a small piece of 'fluff' can cause drag as the record plays.
Remove the felt cover on the turntable then remove the platter the records sit on. It should pull up and off. Over time the platter settles in place so it might not want to come off easily. You might need a helper to push down on the spindle and turntable body to stop it lifting as you pull up on the platter. It might let go suddenly so be careful.
Inspect the platter on the top, edge and underside for dirt or anything that was trapped. Don't forget to check the hole as well.
Next check the area where the platter sits to make sure that it is also clean.
Finally check the drive spindle itself. Make sure the spindle is clean. Position yourself with the spindle at eye level and turn on the turntable to get the spindle turning, (try 45 rpm).
Watch the spindle to see if it wobbles as it spins. The spindle should spin with almost no wobble.
Refit the platter. Again go to eye level and spin the turntable. This will check the platter is fitted as level as possible.
If this doesn't sort out the issue you might need to get a specialist repairer to check that the parts inside the turntable aren't the cause of the problem.

Stanton T50 turntables. There is left/right play in the spindle which means the platter wobbles when pressure is put on it.Anyone know how to strip the top of the turntable to get to the spindle base?

Like most turntables, you have to strip the top of the platter of it's covers to get to what is holding the spindle in place. The cover might be held with glue. So you just have to force it off. You can glue it back after you have done. I suspect the spindle will be held by a horseshoe clip. Again another tricky thing to get off.

I just got this turntable, and the platter has a wobble.

First check that the adjusting screws that stop the turntable moving about during transport are fully open.
Lift the turntable matt and move the platter by hand. You should be able to see that everything is OK or anything that looks odd. If you still can't see anything wrong remove the platter. First make a note of the belt fits. Take photo's if it looks complicated.
The platter will be fixed from the spindle. It might have a horseshoe clip holding it. They are tricky to get off, but try. If the spindle has a cover, remove it. If it is glued you can force it off. You can re-glue with Bostick later.
Examine the platter to see if it is bent!

The plate on my numark tt USB is wobbiling

I find it hard to believe some of these answers. If the platter is wobbling, if you remove the platter, you'll find the spindle the platter rotates on. That will probably be loose. At the bottom of the spindle bearing, you will find a nut. Tighten that, and you should be in business. If you have further questions please visit my website at audioserviceclinic.com. Check if the platter is oke and aint stock, and otherwise is you spindle bearing defect.... A platter ain't goes from flat to wobble all of a sudden. And try to get the stuf second hand, or better, buy a better unit, not from stanton, but a refurbished 1200mk from technics is ok, if you sprin records. Hi, could just be platter not fitted hard down on spindle. I suggest you remove the platter and place it upon a dead flat surface to check to see that the platter is flat. If it is flat refit to turntable ensuring it is hard down on the spindle. If bent discard and replace with new platter.Platters can be ordered for all model 1200/1210 from [email protected]

Back wheel assembly is wobbly

If the wheel wobbles it may be the cones are loose (these are the next bolts along from the nuts that hold the wheel on and they have a locking nut) so these need to be adjusted to stop any play in the spindle whilst still allowing free rotation of the spindle then the wobble should have gone .
