I have a message light that blinks but when I press it nothing happens. The messaging has never been setup and the manuals are not able to be located. how do I retrieve messages and get the light to turn off?

That sounds like the Voice Mail Waiting Indicator.

On the D1680 and similar handsets, it is reset by:
1. press [menu]
2. scroll down to "Global Setup", press [select]
3. scroll down to "VMWI Reset", press [select]
4. scroll down from "No" to "Yes", press [select]
5. handset will chirp, blinking lamp goes out,
6. press [END]

Other models, check your manual. The model number
is on a small sticker under the battery in the handset --
enter this number at www.manualslib.com to get a free
copy of the User's Manual.

The message indicator lights up when you have a new voicemail message, answering machine message, when you are receiving a call, or when the handset is placed on the charger. You can change the setting for the voicemail indicator and message indicator by pressing [MENU], [#][3][4][0], and press [▲] or [▼] to switch between off and on, then select [Save]. It is not possible to turn off the LED for an incoming call, or while it is on the charger.

Depends on what you mean by "not start"
1. You press the on button and NOTHING HAPPENS
2. Press on and only computer light indicates on but sceen remains black
3. starts setup but screen remains black or you just see a blinking underscore
4. Starts up and you get some message
5. You see OS screen but then goes black and you get noting more
6. Something else?
May you be more specific about "not trart" by reformulating your question
Anyway, if you don't have some technical experience insstalling, reistalling or running repair applicatons, maybe you should find a good repait shop to avoid more trouble

I received an IBM laptop with same issue a few months back. The error message due to the drained out CMOS RTC (coin-cell battery), which retains and other BIOS settings.
The system is OK and all you have to do is to get the CMOS/RTC battery replaced by the a professional.

How old is this printer?

Our just started to do the same thing. Drove us crazy because there were no messages. I couldn't find the manual so I looked up the manual on their website. Here's how to fix it....IT WORKS! With the phone in "stand by", open the menu and select Global Setup.Select VMWI reset. Then select yes.

Not sure what model you have but it always helps to open all doors ans trays and check carefully if there is any paper stuck, if so remove and shut all doors. If you still have the message and are sure there is no paper stuck switch off then on again,

Slide the Nortel Grey Bar above the Hold & Rls buttons to reveal the setup button.

1. Hit that button to show *Options List / # Setup list
2. Press * to go into options.
3. Use the arrow buttons or hit 3 to go into CLEAR MESSAGE WAITING
4. Then hit 3 again to clear the message waiting

This should resolve the blinking light.

I found that if I hold the "find hs" button on the BASE unit (right above the red charging light) for a few seconds, it works!! Thank goodness there is a solution! Thanks for the help.
