This depends on what format they are in (epub, mobi, pdf, html, txt or a range of others) You may need a special reader for that format.

I use a library organizer calibre which contains a converter and a viewer which supposedly allows you to convert books between different formats and to read book in a variety of different formats. You must add the book to calibre to be able to read it. It's free. I have a kindle but that only reads mobi formats, and reading epub books atm so calibre works well for that. I have not used any of the "library" functions so far. I found it quite difficult to learn at first.

Being a semi-old duffer myself :-), I can only offer little. I know nothing about the Samsung. My Kindle is almost 3 yrs old. That's archaic by today's standards. The HDX seems like a wonderful upgrade. However, I LOVE my Kindle Fire. It's easy, fast, great wireless with really nice features. The book selection is amazing thru Kindle (whether you "rent", buy or just get the free ones). My experience with tech support has been great! (Had to call a few times in the beginning.)

I got the same one for my husband 4 mos later. He's happy and has never had any problems. The only issue I have is there's no camera and downloading some odd files these days are impossible -- only because they're huge!!! You'll make a good decision and your wife will love what ever you choose. Good luck and Happy Holidays!

I am assuming you downloaded an audio book (an MP3 file), in which case you have to open any media/audio player app that you have installed on your Nextbook and it will find that file for you.

I couldn't either! So, I uninstalled the appslib and reinstalled it and it works great now! You have to reset everything and you will lose apps I guess if you have any, I had none so this didn't affect me. If you go to Coby's website and under FAQ's it explains how to uninstall and install.
