Kenwood VR-7070 Receiver Logo

There are many different "listening modes" integrated on my Kenwood VR-7070 6.1 channel receiver. But i only get both front speakers to work when in "mono" mode. Is there an easy fix?

  • Anonymous Jun 13, 2010

thanks lynchms, but i should have elaborated more. i understand how mono output works. any other listening mode i set it on i.e. cinema, pro-logicII, etc. only outputs sound through one speaker. i was just wondering if anyone has encountered this and found something like a blown diode or a burnt up resistor. if so please share. thanks.

thank you lynchms. i will definitely look into that. again, thanks.

There is not a "fix" for this selection, MONO is basically a single channel output so there is no seperation for various speakers like left or right which is a stereo effect, mono is like a single speaker sound so you are fortunate to have the sound from 2 speakers but they deliver the same sound.

petersn67- Oh I understand now, how about when you perform a "speaker set-up TEST function" ie. the white noise level, that allows your to set individual speaker channel levels, if you are still only getting noise or sound from one single speaker then it more than likely is a hardware issue failure, last resort, maybe try resetting the microprocessor on the receiver, they usually trip from amplified overloads, just an idea.

You're guessing. That is exactly the wrong thing to do. Get the manual.

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Kenwood-VR-205-Receivers-manual/id/480ci174/t/2/

"[D]vd 6 channel input" is for a 6-channel analog input as the name implies. I doubt you even have a source that HAS 6 analog channel outputs.

Speakers are OUTPUTS of the amplifers' speaker posts. Any one can work ANYwhere.

And that bi-wire capability, IF the speakers have it - pretend it isn't there.

Maybe you should first isolate the problem to the receiver or the speaker by swapping the front speakers with each other to see if the loudness stays with the channel of the speaker.

Or, the acoustics of the room just make that speaker seem louder at the listening position. Try taming it with the adjustments provided in the receiver.

No unfortunately this is the way movies are made. I know what you are feeling it is the most annoying thing ever. The only thing you can do is turn down all the surround speakers and turn up your center channel. the voices and talking are always output through the center channel. So you have to do a lot of messing around to get the best settings for you. I am an audiophile and I will never understand why they make the background sound/music in some scenes so much louder then any talking. Hope this helps if you have any other questions please let me know.
Thanks,

Kenwood VR-507 Now only get sound from 1 front speaker. all other speakers have stopped. Have not changed anything.

PROCESS OF ELIMINATION: connect each of the other speaker in the working to check to see if the wires and other speakers are working. If all speaker play when connected to the working channel check all other cables and connections....use the tuner as an working source to test. If that doesn't help then you may have an bad channel in your amp and may need to be repaired.

I have a VR 615 receiver. All 6 surround sound

It all depends on the processing the receiver is doing when recreating the sound. Change the surround mode to Dolby Digital or THX if it's on there. When it is receiving a Left/Right signal only, it does some processing but pretty much spits it out of all the speakers, fronts being the loudest. That's why you always hear them. When it is getting a Digital signal, the receiver does a much better job of processing the audio to the correct speaker, but unless there is a lot of background noise, there might not be any signal going to the speaker.
Also, check to make sure that the "size" of the speaker on the rear channels is set correctly. There is a setting on most receivers to tell the receiver how big the speaker is on that channel. This sets the power level on the output to accomodate the size of the speaker.

Kenwood VR-407 always stays in Stereo mode

You will need to go to audio set up and make sure it is set up to play with a center chanel if you have one as well as the surrounds. You can also only have side a speakers selected when trying to use surround. If you have b selected it will play in stereo only

Speakers not working

They will only have ambient sound (not same sounds as front speakers). Also for each input (video 1, video 2, dvd, tuner, etc...) you need to choose what surround mode you would like to use via the "Listen Mode" button. There is a little pictogram in the display which indicates which speakers are in use.
