GE MICROWAVE NEED TO CHANGE LIGHT BULB IN A OVERHEAD GE MICROWAVE

Can I do what you recommend with the microwave still

    fastened over the stove?

  • fletchej Jul 16, 2008

I have a GE jvm1842 microwave. I need to change a bad cooktop/night light bulb. According to the manual, I break an adhesive seal and remove the bulb by gently turning. I've never seen an instalation of a light bulb like this. The light bulb seal is broken, and the bulb just spins in place. I'm afraid to apply pressure as I don't want to break the bulb. I haven't purchased the new bulb yet. How would the I install the new one? Does it get glued in??

I have a JVM1631 microwave and I need to replace the night light bulbs underneath the unit. I pulled the light cover off and tried to remove the bulb but it twisted in place and the bulb came out with the plastic casing still attached, now I have a bulb hanging by its internal wires. There are 2 bulbs and both are blown. How do I properly remove these without

doing any damage to the bulbs or to the sockets.

The owner attempted to replace the light bulb (40 Watt, three inch) of an overhead light in a GE Spacemaker microwave (Model JVM1640) and broke the bulb causing an electrical flash. The other bulb stopped working-Is there an internal fuse that may have blown? I got the screw-in stub out but measured no current with an AC meter with the light on. Is this worth fixing or is there internal problems such as fried wires which make it worthless to proceed? Also why are these bulbs so difficult to unscrew?

Dear Carluc

Right for this one, it is essential that you unplug the oven from the mains and leave it to dissipate any electrical current certainly for 6 hours. Once you have done this, you wil to get yourself a phillips head 6mm screwdiver and unfasten the screws on the back that hold the casing cover to the chassis. This will expose the enternal components, then all you simply need to do, is find the lightbulb, unclip this from the holder and then replace it with one of the same make and model. Fitting and re-assembly is as straightforward as it is taking the unit to bits.

go to http://www.google.com and type in GE Microwave lightbulb........this will get you the details about the bulb, and use the same google search to get your service sheet/ disassembly guide. Easy as 1,2,3.

Hope this works for you and please contact me here if you need further assistance in this or any other matter that is of a technical nature.

Yours sincerely

Oz

I need to change the bulb inside the GE Spacemaker microwave oven (JVM1490SH 01). I cannot find where the bulb is located and can't find a removable panel panel that would give me access and that's after having taken off the front grill.

I too had a problem with the "over the range" halogen bulbs on my GE Over the Range MW oven (model PMV1870DM3)> I could not get the new bulbs to seat in their receptacles. I called GE and while the service person was very nice, no real solution was offered up except to say that the adhesive is only applied at assembly so the the bulbs don't fall out in transport. By holding up a mirror I was able to see how the bulbs are held in place. To install the bulb, insert the two prongs into the ceramic holder and gently push the bulb 'in straight'. A spring loaded mechanism will open and capture the two bulb prongs. Hope this helps.

How to change the light bulb

What kind of microwave oven is this? A counter-top model or an over-the-range microwave? Do you have a brand and model number? And which light bulb do you want to replace - the cavity light bulb, or the bottom light(s) of an OTR microwave?

Changing interior light bulb on GE jes1289sk

I have had this trouble before but with a different model. There may be a plastic screen inside the microwave that will just pop off exposing the bulb. Now all you will need to do is to find out what type of bulb you will need to change the other bulb. I hope this made things easier on you.

Model JVM1790SK 01 Where/how do you change the

This is a pretty bad design, sometimes you can just remove the upper grill and access the light assy. If the panel is to tight to work in to change the light, you get to take the whole micowave down and remove the outer wrapper to change the light bulb. This is also not a standard bulb (part #WB25X10019). You may be able to get one from Lowes or Home Depot actually Sears would be a better bet, otherwise you will need to order one from an appliance parts outlet. Hope this helps and sorry I didn't design the thing I just fix them.
