It should shut off when it reaches the correct temperature. If you have the temp set to low it could cause it to continue to run or if there is an issue with the fridge that could also cause this issue. Keep in mind after a defrost it will take some time for everything to get back to the correct temp so it may run constant for a long time.
This could be tricky.
It may be a defrosting problem.
Try defrosting the freezer first. If that solves the problem then you have an auto defrost problem.
If not then you could have a small refrigerant leak. The refrigerant has been lost very slowly causing a gradual phase out of performance.
The leak needs to be repaired and the refrigerator regassed to fix this problem
might be possible, depending where exactly the puncture is, but if it was repaired it would need regassing to the correct level, you would need a professional refrigeration engineer,
Unit is low on gas. You may be able to have it regassed but it will probably need to be done again at some time in the future as there must be a leak somewhere in the gas circuit.
unit should shut off when temperature reached ie compressor and fan stop. condensor is just a grid of pipework heater only comes on when in defrost cycle
th ebi-metal is a thermostat which shuts the defrost heater on/off, but doesnt actually put the unit into defrost. if it were bad the defrost heater would never go on resulting in massive build up of ice on back wall of freezer, and noticable refrigeration sect. cooling.. dont know how you know the compressor never shuts down, but if that the case perhaps you have a sealed system/ freon issue. try removing the back panel of freezer section and check the evaporator coil. you shuld have an even frost pattern over the entire evap coil. if theres just frost over the top 1or 2 coils, and the rest of coil is shiny aluminum , thats an indication of a sealed system issue.( 5 year part warr by manufacture) def not a do it yourself issue...but that would,, depending on extent of restriction/loss of freon,, cause freezer to freeze and defrost eratically, and the compressor would be running constantly trying to achieve a good stable temp
