Take the printer to a qualified printer technician, and pay the technician about $50 to properly "clean" it.

If your your printer cannot clean automatically, your printer head is probably clogged so badly that you will have to do it manually.... your manual should tell you how to remove it...

I have seen this too when the waste station is full. If this is the problem, it is likely time for a new machine or a reasonable repair bill.

How do i manually run a routine maintainence on my printer...it says it's unable to clean.

You could check for a paper Jam or foreign oblect in the machine, under the top cover and in the back cover.

If there isnt a Jam in the machine it means there is a mechanical problem. There is a sponge in this machine and once it is full it wont be able to absorbe any more ink from the cleanings. You will need to bring it in for services, they would replace the sponge and reset the cleaning counter.

You can check the brother web site for an authorized service center in your area.

Unable to print see troubleshooting and routine maintainance in users guide Have read through guide, followed all instructions, cleaned, replaced cartridges , turned off at main supply AND still same...

Unplug the printer from power cord.Press and hold the "menu" button, then plug the device. You'll see on the LCD screen a "machine error" code.If this code is 40,41 or 4F the print head is defective. If the error is 50 or 51 there is error in Purge unit and printer require service. If the error is 46 the waste ink tank is full.Follow this:
Enter 80, then scroll down with the arrow down (round) key. You'll find an entry listed as purge count. If number is over 6000, enter 2 7 8 3.
This will reset the purge count value. Then
restart the printer, hopefully without the annoying cannot clean message.
