Tried holding ESC key down during power up. Displays " Press F1 fto load defults". Depressing F1 then proceeds to load OS.
Tried all suggested methods without success. The User Guide does not give instructions to access BIOS.

Hi there,

On most systems, the key or key combination to press to enter the BIOS program is displayed on the screen when the system boots up, at the time when the BIOS is ready to enter Setup.

take a look at some default keys:-

  • {Delete} (modern Award and AMI BIOSes)
  • {F2} (modern Phoenix BIOSes)
  • {Ctrl}+{Alt}+{Esc}
  • {Ctrl}+{Esc}
  • {Alt}+{Esc}
  • {Ctrl}+{Alt}+{S}
  • {Insert}
  • {F1}

Unable to get to CMOS using any of the 3 methods

This machine is one of the first "legacy free" models which means there are no BIOS options to change. All settings and resources must be assigned by the OS.
For details, please check the "legacy free" FAQ on MS Knowledge base.
If you are trying to access the BIOS to change boot order so that you can boot from a CD, hold down the 'c' key during POST/boot. This will case your laptop to boot from CD-ROM.
