The printer is still printing, but upon feeding the first sheet of paper it makes this horrible loud clicking/clacking noise. Once the first sheet is fed the rest of the print job prints okay without the clacking. Then if you print something after that it makes the noise again. It sounds like something isn't turning properly or something is getting stuck.
Open the HP DeskJet D1660 printer door (Where you normally go to change the ink cartridges.) On the inside, towards the right is a tray that can slide forwards and backwards. You will need to move that tray all the way back (away from you) and then move it all the way forward (towards the HP Deskjet D1660 Id sticker.) Now, again push the plastic tray back until the rubber tip (found on the top, far right of the plastic tray) is 1/2 inch away from the metal printer head track. To confirm, make sure the rubber tip matches with the structuring beam supporting the printer housing.
Unfortunately, you will have to do this every time the printer gets stuck. Annoying? Yes, very much so. If you want to extend the life of printer, use a T15 torx screwdriver to take out the 4 screws on the printer housing. Clean that sliding tray of any ink and gunk. This extends the life, but it will still get stuck in the future. :(

Your rollers may be worn and when they are trying to pick up the paper they are not able to . Buy taking your printer to an authorized technician for a maintenance cleaning this should resolve your issue.
Sorry for the misunderstanding. From your further description it sounds like the gears are chattering in the ink service station. This station keeps the cartridges clean. It could be bad gears on the station. This is also where the waste ink gets put, the service station tends to bind when there is too much waste ink. I have see service stations successfully removed and cleaned with water. Beware this is a messy job!

Did you even read my question? The paper is picked up fine. Pages print find. The noise comes from the side where the ink cartridges go right before it pulls the paper through to print. It only does this right when the job is starting. It even does it when you put new cartridges in and just close the door and they move over to that side. It sounds like a machine gun it is loud and annoying. And I think I'd be able to troubleshoot this problem myself if you could use normal screwdrivers instead of star shaped alen wrenches that no one has.
