Do you have the receivers "Audio Input" set to "Auto?"
There is a small button on the front of the receiver to set audio for either: "Analog, Digital, or Auto" and you can double check it in the "On Screen Menu", "Manual Setup" "Audio" Hope this helps, if you still have an issue, check the "Source"(DVD,Cable Box, etc) setup mode as well.

Yamaha home theatre system RXV 350 amplifier

Check it without speaker connection. If the set does not go to protection mode, check all the speakers by connecting one by one at a time and switch the set ON; to find the faulty speaker. If the set goes to protection mode even no speaker connected, check and replace damaged components at its audio output section circuit. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. How do we connect our system using a Shaw PVR

Do you have a optical/coaxial input on your system? Eg: cable, TV.I use a optical input on my Yamaha ( cable, satellite ). Look to see if there is a optical/coaxial output on your pvr, there should be. Use ether the optical or coaxial output from your pvr and connect it to the cable (satellite ) optical/coaxial input on your receiver. The manual that came with your Shaw PVR should explain how. You will get 5.1 surround if available on certain channels.I prefer optical over coaxial myself, but they both work well.If you don't have optical/coaxial inputs on your receiver, you will have to use RCA cables, analogue out on cable box, to tape input or aux on your receiver. You will not get surround sound, just stereo. But it's better than nothing.

Just bought a used yamaha receiver model RXv793 do not know how to hook it up.

First do not panic by seeing all sockets in the back side of the receiver. You can connect 5 speakers and one subwoofer on the speaker A switch and maybe a second pair of stereo speakers on the B switch. All the speaker sockets have red and black terminals, so do all speakers. Just get decent cables ( You can buy a whole connection Kit if you want ) and connect the corresponding outlets to you speakers. If you have a powered subwoofer connect the subwoofer input to a socket labeled Subwoofer pre out on the RXV. You will need a RCA to RCA cable for that Next you will need a coaxial or Optic fiber cable to connect a DVD player digitally. The back of the DVD player will have a socket marked coaxial out, and so does the RXV's backside. Just link them .
Turn on the system everything should work. If you are not getting DVD sound there is small button on the RXV front panel called Digital input -- set it to auto ( keep pressing the button and it will scroll through various modes). Also remember to switch on speaker A on the front panel.

Hi. I write from spain. I have the blu-ray LG

Have you tried the another optical cable? They don't tolerate dirty connections or small-radius bends in their routing. THAT (and the expense of optical cables) is why I always choose coaxial connections when possible.

I was using my vsx D510 with a hiteker dvd player

Each digital input is assigned a name and a function by you. You have to dig out the manual and assign the digital inputs.

My $.02. Why do you not want to use the coaxial imputs? There is no functional superiority of one over the other BUT coaxial is a) cheap, since it uses standard RCA cables; b) adaptable, since you can splice or split them among two devices; c) not delicate or prone to failure due to tight bends. I share one coaxial input between two digital device with an RCA splitter cable. Just have to make sure to turn the one I'm not using OFF. Try that with optical.

On the digital input 1 have the coaxial cable hooked up to blu-ray player but i have no sound, but if i hook up optical i do have sound.. wrong coaxial cable

Possibly a bad cable, but not likely its a 'wrong' one. Any RCA-style cable will do for SPDIF coaxial digital signals. Try another one. Are there other Digital Coaxial inputs you could try to prove the function?

You may have to configure your Digital Inputs so the receiver knows Digital Input 1 is Coaxial.
