I Have a kenmore side by side model# 596.51672100. Freezer side is right temperature. Refrigerator side is 60 degrees no matter what I set controls at. Tried manually defrosting both sides and cleaned all areas under and behind unit. Freezer side had large build up of ice on coils before defrosting. This problem happened 2 years ago and manually defrosting solved problem but not this time. Unit is about 9 years old. Thanks

SOURCE: Kenmore model 105.53534300 side by side refridgerator not cooling

Relays are located on the left side of the compressor. How long ago did you smell the burning smell? Are you 100% sure the compressor is running? If it is, nothing is wrong with the relays. Although sometimes it is hard to tell if the compressor is running. By morning temps will be higher than tonight if compressor isnt running. If it isnt running, relays must be changed. I will post shortly on how to change the relays.

SOURCE: Ice building up in fridge

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.
How to check stuff>
http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

Your evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

Where is the temperature control located for kenmore coldspot refrigerator model 106.51139210

There are two temperature sensors (one in the refrigerator and one in the freezer). The refrigerator sensor is near the front of the compartment on the right side below the door switch and above the slides for the drawers. The freezer's refrigerator temperature sensor is on the left near the top of the compartment. See the two liner diagrams on the page linked below. To change the temperature, press and hold the Temperature button on the LCD panel for 3 seconds. The display should read the current temperature set point and Refrigerator. Use the Acceler-Ice button to lower the temperature in the fridge. Press the Lock button to raise the temperature in the refrigerator compartment. Press Temperature again to see the Freezer set-point and adjust it as above. Note: the temperature in each part of the unit depends on air circulating from the freezer into the refrigerator. Make sure that the vents aren't blocked. Wait 24 hours after adjusting the temperature set points for the unit to reach equilibrium before deciding if the set point should be adjusted further.

Sears Parts Direct has the parts diagrams for the 106.51139210 here: https://www.searspartsdirect.com/model/4lfq9qfxpx-000582/kenmore-10651139210-side-by-side-refrigerator-parts . This page also has a link to the owner's manual for the side-by-side refrigerator, https://c.searspartsdirect.com/mmh/pd_download/lis_pdf/OWNM/1302214L.pdf . See page 15 of the manual for the information on setting the temperature set-points.

I hope this helps.

Model 106.44109300. What should the temperature controls read for the refrigerator and freezer?

Valerie,
Set point for the freezer should be between -5 degrees and 5 degrees above 0. Set point for the refrigerator should be 33 degrees to 41 degrees. Hope this helps! If you need a copy of the owner's manual, you can find it here.

I have a Kenmore Elite 51374. The refrigerator is not getting cold enough but freezer is too cold. Technician said that it was an electrical problem to call a electrician that I needed a new outlet. I...

That is the dumbest answer I've ever heard from a technician.

The cold control on most boxes controls the freezer temperature. You want the freezer temp to be around zero degrees.

Somewhere (usually in the refrigerator section) there's another control that actually sets a damper, letting some cold air from the freezer into the refrigerator. Higher numbers equal lower temperature. Find that second control knob and turn it up by 1 or 2 numbers, let an hour or so pass and check your refrigerator temp. You want about 40 degrees in the fridge.

Side by side unit. no temperature control in freezer or fridge temperature of fridge is 60 degrees F on top. Freezer temp is 45 degrees. Bottom part of fridge is 28 degrees F.

Many times a freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong.

If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out the last two tips.

If your refrigerator is running but warm, then...

Check out these tips that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

Refrigerator not working, freezer works great

Yes, only one compressor. The refrigeration system actually only cools the freezer. Then there is a vent from the freezer to the refrigerator that allows the cold air to circulate to the refrigerator side. That little dial you turn to set the refrigerator temperature is actually only open or closing that vent. The dial for the freezer temperature is an actual thermostat that operates the compressor.

The temperature of the freezer should be between 0 and -10 degrees Fahrenheit. If it is in or near this range and the refrigerator is only at 55 degrees (the refrig should be at 38 to 45 degrees) then check for blockage or icing where the air from the freezer circulates into the refrigerator.

If the freezer is not in or near the 0 to -10 degrees then you have a refrigeration problem. First thing to do is clean the condenser coil on the bottom of the unit using rags and a shop-vac. Be careful of the wiring and tubing down there plus the sharp metal.
Unplug the unit before cleaning.

Otherwise, you'll need to call a refrigerator service technician to repair the refrigeration system for you.

If this helps you, please select YES to one of the first two ratings questions. Thank you, and Good Luck.

Burnt smell inside freezer.

Generally speaking it is the refrigerator control that controls the compressor operation. Refrigerator is cooled by air from the freezer. When the refrigerator gets down to its designed temperature it shuts off the compressor. The freezer control determines how much air is allowed to flow into the refrigerator section and there-by controls the freezer temperature.
