My LG DVD RW can not play DVD

I have a problem with my DVD RW . It play cd but can not play any DVD. I am using windows XP service pack 2

You can try some other free DVD player programs on your computers such as Leawo Blu-ray Player and VLC
This player is a free 4K and Blu-ray player which can support most video and audio formats. Sometimes video players such as windows media player can play CD without any problems. However, they cannot play DVD.

Are you sure that your ROM can't play the disc or is it that you don't have a program to play the disc? To my knowledge Windows XP didn't come packaged with a DVD Decoder program; except for XP Media Center. There are some FreeWare programs out there that you can download, or you can pay for the program that decodes DVDs so that you can watch them. If your DVD isn't recognizing any type of DVD that you put into the ROM, then try playing a CD\DVD player cleaning disc in it. If that doesn't work, then you will probably have to get another DVD-ROM.

I am unable to format a DVD-RW disc on my Windows XP computer
Typically, you use DVD/CD writing software to write files to the disc.
There is no 'formatting' involved.
If, however, you want to use a DVD/RW disc as a "big floppy" then you need special software for that. What software came with your DVD writer? or You can use free "Nero InCD", -> Download

Note**
For OS XP, you must have at least, WinXP Service Pack 2 installed.

ok... Xp both home and pro editions may require you do the updates... if you have not done so lately, you might want to do it now.... go to windows update to see if you still have to update... make sure you also have service pack 3 installed... LG also comes with it's own software for you to install on CD Rom... if you have it and it does not install right away, you might have to do it manually or go to you CD Rom and right click explore to see the files to install it.. DVD plays in DVD player is not seen at all by Windows XP
Hi,it's obvious from your problem that the particular disc that cannot be viewed on your computer is of a formatt not supported by the windows XP.some DVDs are of low quality which can be viewed practically on any DVD player but as a result of their low quality and the sensitivity of the Windows they are not recognized by your computer. In as much as other DVDS play on your computer,it means there's no problem with your computer,but an unsupported disc formatt is been trying to be viewed and there's nothing you can do to view a DVD formatt not supported by your computer.please don't be bothered.

My dvd rw reads a dvd and then says my hardware is a cd rom
i wish i could help you.. but my sony is haven problems too. im running windows xp.. service pack 3.. i've already updated all drivers.. uninstalled it from device manager.. n it still isn't reading any cd-r cd-rw cd's.. my windows does read the device.. n it pops up everytime i load the computer up!

Won't recognize blank dvd
Chek wtat is written on front panel
If it DVD-RW it can record only DVD-R blank, if it + so only +R
or DVD-RAM. If it is DVD +/- RW or RAM it can record any disk.
Also chek the speed for you DVD and disk you using.
If you dvd maximum speed for recording is for example 2.7, 4, 8 you should use only DVD with max speed 2.7, 4, 8 or 1-8, 1-16 etc. So they should be labeled the same as you DVD

Hi there
Is this problem with windows media player only or with rest players also.
You try to repair your media player using your XP installation CD and then install a good codec pack such as XP codec pack or K-Lite codec pack.These are available for free .
