My projection is in Black and White

A few weeks back, my projection went from being a beautiful color screen with a slight burn mark on the left, to a Black & White screen with a burn mark on the left. I got a new bulb and replaced it but that wasn't the problem it would seem. with the new bulb, it was still projecting B&W as well as with the burn on the left. Please let me know if there is anything i can do or if I need to just start looking at getting a new one or a television.
Thanks, Jon C.

I have seen this with a number of X1's and yes it will need to go into service and knowing what the cost of repairs was and the age of the x1 i would start looking for a new projector.

51F59A red screen all the time

1. entire grill below front screen must come off (usually held in place by screws in back on either side.)

2. locate and remove inspection plate dead center behind it.

3. Locate small black plastic block with 6 black controls built in; three (look carefully) left to right are focus--DO NOT TOUCH THOSE.

The other three are Screens and will be marked with tiny letters r g b (red, green, blue) and green is always middle.

Locate the red screen (not FOCUS).

With set on adjust red down just slightly(usually less than 1/8 turn.

Since the set will be on TAKE CARE NOT TO TOUCH ANYTHING INSIDE THE SET WHEN YOU DO THIS.

IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ASK BEFORE YOU TRY THIS.

This is unusual for this model, can you tell me what source you use for signal? Cable? Sat? Direct TV? Also how are you connected----via the coax fitting or the rear AV jacks.

Sony 65 inch rear projection

behind the front grille there is a wooden panel remove it and yo will see a small black epoxy box with 6 knobs sticking out from it.
with the color turned down all the way, look closely for r,g,b on the box beside each knob this denotes which knob is for which color.
you need to adjust the 1 marked g on the bottom row. this adjusts the green bias to the green tube. this will get rid off the whiteish lines. adjust this knob counterclockwise in a darkened room untill the color shows a black and white picture. adjust slowly as the set will be monitoring what you are doing and will adjust itself as you adjust. bring the green down just enough so you don't see anything, make sure that you don't see red or blue either, if you do also adjust untill you don't see any color. these adjustments should be done with the input set to a video input that has no signal coming in the set will show the input label and nothing else.
when you have the raster( screen ) all dark you can go to an input with a signal and make sure the image is black and white adjust the bias of the color that is too much so that it is black and white.
hope this makes sense to you. now turn the user color control back to where you want it.you are done. reassemble, enjoy
you might have to do this again in a few months as the control you have adjusted are dirty and can't be cleaned with a cleaner.
moving these controls cleans them but the color balance procedure would have to be completed after such movement of these contols and any quick movement would have to be done with the set turned off. a quick back and forth movement will do a better job cleaning the tracks inside that adjustmet block but will mean you will need to do the setup adjustment all over again in order to get the screen blank and the color to balance to black and white. the top 3 knobs are for focus of the individual colos only adjust if the red, green or blue isn't sharp, you can try these to see with out doing harm. finally if thebias is too low then th lifgt on the front of the set might blink at you and the auto alignment might get part way through and stop. if this happens you need to bring the bias adjustment back up slightly. adjust only the bias for the tube that has too much color to start with and if this happens you will know that the bias control you just adjusted is the 1 that needs to be adjusted slightly.

Bad color

Turn the color level all the way down and see if you have a good black and white picture. If your screen isnt black and white it should have a predominate tint to it. then turn the screen control for that color down to achieve the best black and white picture. then adjust your color level that should help.

Screen Burn In ?

Nope Not unless you replace the tubes with the burn in them You have to take off ther front screen and look into the lens while tvs on and you will see what tube is burned worse. Sorry!!! but I have heard of folks equilizing the burned tubes by taking a solid color one at a time (red, green and blue) and keeping on only one color on for 4 to 6 hours one at a time and them all on at a time for a solid white and have seen some pretty good results.. Good Luck
