The chain brake should have been released before removing the cover. You will have to release it with a large flat-blade screwdriver in the connector that runs the brake from the control handle. Hope this helps!

The chain on my 18" ryobi electric chain saw came off. how do I put it back on>

  • Unloosen the bts on the chain cover, remove the cover, loosen the bar for some slack, reposition the chain and reverse the opertaion. Be sure the teeth are going in the correct direction. Tight the chain so a dime will just slip under the chain itself.

How to put chain back on when it falls off

Almost every saw has a cover where the bar locks onto the saw, you take off the cover just as you do if you needed to remove the bar.

Just loosen the two or one bolts that hold the bar and slide the bar back, put on the chain and slide the bar back out.

Now there is suppose to be some play, the chain is not suppose to be very tight.

Here is what it suppose to be like.

Read this link that I post, it's easier to read this then me trying to explain it.

I took the sprocket cover off to remove the bar and chain while i had the chain break engaged. (idiot) NOW i cant get the thing back on. any ideas?

It must be reset before you can reinstall it.
This answer stolen from Dolfoff;

Clamp the cover in a vise being careful to stay on flat surfaces of the cover (use wooden blocks if needed) and pull the brake lever back to the "OFF" position. It's a strong spring so pull hard in the direction that would be towards the rear of the saw if the cover were installed.
Hope this helps.

I cant get the side cover back on, what do you have to do for it to cooperate?

I have to assume that we are talking about a chain saw if not let me know what kind of product this is. Anyway if it a saw did you accidently trip the brake? if so you need to reset the brake to go around the clutch, sometimes you have to wiggle and finesse the cover to fit on. Look for any debris on the housings that would prevent it from fitting.

My chain came off. how do I replace

on the side of the saw is a cover usually with one hex nut, take that off and remove the cover. clean out any foreign material you find BUT be careful that the chain might be sharp and make sure the saw is unplugged. then what you want to do is loosen up the adjusting screw located on the front of the saw in the area of the cover a little, roll the chain back onto the bar and sprocket, replace cover and hold up on the tip of the bar with a rag to avoid getting cut snug bar adjustment while lifting the center of chain on top until you can just start to see bottom of teeth, then tighten cover nut, roll chain by hand should roll freely
