TASCAM 2488 won't boot up..HELP!

My TASCAM 2488 cannot boot up. When I start it, it says," cannot boot. not detecting HDD correctly. Check H-W. Earlier, the power was disconnected in the middle of recording. What does this mean? What should I do? HELP!

When I had that same problem, tried changing hard drive..Not it!!I changed cd-burner on a whim,,BOOTED RIGHT UP>>>Could be the same..Maybe when the power went off, it may have surged to much power to your unit...

Reseat the HDD cables, just unplug them and blow on them to remove any dust or anything on the cables and the connectors and plug them back in, but first make sure it is unplugged from the socket and once it is press the power button to let all the power out of it so you don't shock yourself , i hope I was helpful and it solves your issue

Secure the connection of the hard drive by pushing if firmly or
by pulling the connection, then reconnect it again.

Your HD risk to be corrupted, probably need to be removed and tested on a different device, I see if I can find the schematics

Where can I get knobs for a Tascam 2488 MKII. Trim knobs

I get a CAUTION sign when I boot up that says:
Cannot Boot! Not Detect HDD Correctly. Please POWER OFF , and Check H/W..." Can anyone assit me with resolving this problem

Usual suspect is a faulty power adapter which is failing to provide enough power for the drive to spin up to speed. Try another adapter with the same ratings.

HI I have the tascam 2488 mk11....have only had it a little over a year....has about 20 hrs. playing time on it as I haven't had time to use it.....Today it gave me the following message; CANNOT BOOT...

This is often due to the HD not getting enough power to spin up to proper speed when booting. Usual suspect is the power adapter. You might try picking up an after market one that matches the specs before going through the expense and trouble of shipping the unit back.

2488 will not boot up, says not reading the hdd check the h/w .

Usually this is a problem with the Hard Drive not getting enough power to spin up properly. The AC power adapter is the usual suspect.

Boot Problem in TASCAM 2488

Turning the power off with out going through the shut-down process will sometimes trash the hard drive making it un readable. To force format of hard drive hold down the shut down, send, shift and quick routing keys at the same time then turn power on. This will format the HD. When finished the display will show "Factory initalize complete" "please power off" NOTE you will lose every thing on the HD including the demo song.

Repartition and format the hard drive. There are specific instructions elsewhere on the Internet. I did this about six months ago. I believe my problem came about after I stored my 2488 on top of my monitors - I believe the exposure to the magnetic fields corrupted the boot partition on the drive.

Check H/W?

sounds like a problem with the internal disk drive, could be damaged and may need replacing... if its still within the warranty return it for repair or replacement.
