Blackberry says to insert sim card and has a red sos symbol

(Blackberry 8100)I keep getting a little red sos symbol in the top right hand corner of my screen, I used to take the battery out and put it back in. This solved the problem for awhile. Now my screen reads insert SIM card at the top middle of my screen and has the sos symbol in the top right hand corner. Nothing I have tried including taking out the battery and sim card then replacing them has worked

My Mobile Network reads SOS

switch off your blackberry, remove the back cover and battery, and remove the sim card. Replace it after about one minute and it should not read SOS anymore.
If it still reads SOS, insert your sim card into another cellphone to see if it also reads SOS in a different phone. If it does, you need to call the company you bought the sim card from.
Eg; if it's an MTN sim card, call MTN; if it's Vodacom, call Vodacom etc.

I have just bought a blackberry torch and it is locked to orange i have put loads of different orange sim cards in the phone and all it says is sim not provisioned:2 with SOS in the top right hand corner...

it may be due to network lock, contact service provider if it locked , you can get unlock codes here http://www.theunlockspot.com/blackberry-9800-torch/rs10wp9/
you need to specify the country and network provider

SIM card is either bad or not authorized to work on that carrier network. Make sure the SIM card is installed correctly.

Have blackberry 8120.unable to get it to work. have put in batt and sim. flashing red light on top rt,then timer symbol for few secs now screen black. help
