Have you checked monitor settings Carl? Some are set to sleep after a certain period of time. Mine was set to sleep after 1 hour (unknown to me) until I reset it. =)
This may be a common problem with these, I have 2 side by side, both failed in the same way within days of each other even though one is used more than the other. I know its not faulty, as you say, it runs fine for 5 seconds, then goes black, power down & back up, runs fine for another few seconds.. will be searching for a fix for this, as local service co. wants close to what I paid for them new just to look at, and tell me its gonna cost $500 to fix.. probably! my guess its a inverter capacitor, or dry joint, and some sensing circuit is shutting the monitor down. To open, you need to slide a hard thin plastic wedge along the edge, with a slight pry it opens up at the tags, there are 4 tags across the top, and 3 down each side, if careful, you can oen without damaging plastic case edges. be careful of the inverter leads and PCB (under the shiny aluminium side plate), they can hold a fair belt of DC even after monitor is off for awhile.
Hello sir, I have samsung 22in lcd monitor and nvidea fx5500 card. since last more than 6 months, my monitor goes blank If system remains idle (means I don't move mouse and don't touch keyboard) for 1 minute. After monitor goes blank I have to move mouse to brink it back to on. The power led keep on during this problem. I tried everything including power options in windows but could not fix it. Is it bios setting to be checked or could it be windows bug? Please help
More likely to be power supply problem due to bad caps, you need to open it up and inspect the power supply section first, post back what you see so we can guide you further, see example of failed SAMSUNG monitors due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
