is this a single red light? if so, it is a E code error. if there are 2, it is a overheating problem. if its 3, it is a general system error which could be a number of things which you need to figure out the secondary error code to narrow down the problem.
to find the secondary error code:
1. after the red lights start flashing, hold down the "controller sync" button.
2. push the "eject" button 4 times and count the amount of red lights that flash. the red lights will begin to flash rapidly. secondary error codes are only 4 numbers. 1 light = 1, 2 lights = 2, 3 lights = 3 and 4 lights = 4.
after you get the code go to
this website, and on the right hand side of the screen under "Xbox Repair Guide" select your PRIMARY error code (1,2,3 or 4 slow flashing red lights). then it will ask you to enter your SECONDARY error code, which is the one you discovered in the steps above.
this will give you a very narrowed down idea of what is wrong with your console, and will give us "questions answerers" a better idea on how to help ya out!
