SMC EZ Connect Modem Logo

Just had a new router put in by Time Warner Cable and they synced all our computers to a MAC address. We have 4 computers on this (2 desktops) and 2 laptops. Only one is having a problem, the Dell Desktop, keeps knocking one off the internet. (says: This Page cannot be displayed). It is intermittent, and only when on facebook it seems. Dell Inspiron Desktop, Windows XP, has wireless connection. Time Warner Cable says there is no more they can do.

I would need a few more details to really get to the heart of this but the first thing I would do is connect this Dell to the router with an actual cable, if only temporarily. See if there are still issues when directly connected. Depending on answer to that you would know if the wireless is some how responsible or if there is some other cause. If there are no issues with a direct cable I would say it is the wireless card or signal. You could a try different wireless hardware on the dell or switch channels on the wifi router to see if that helps. I can't think of a reason why four computers on the same router would respond differently to a specific site.

Have a new modem-router, different from the one I had b4. I use Roku for the JW Broadcast mostly. I can get to Roku & to Broadcast. Then, it says "It cannot connect to the Data."

If you changed routers you need to have your ISP (cable company clear your MAC address so the new router will work. If your ISP support number is "off shore" you may need to get to a regional support team. I just went through this and Time Warner had to dispatch a tech who laughed then called his back office and reset the MAC and I was up in running in about 3 min.

EnGenius ESR600H does not work with time warner cable

It might be a MAC address issue. See if you can clone the WAN MAC address from a router which works on your cable service.

I have a new macbook pro. I am using neatgear box (time warner cable) to get wifi. My macbook either a) won't find my wifi, b) will see my wifi and give full bars of signal but won't load pages or c) will...

1.Log into router. Using either 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1 in a browser window that is ( internet Explorer or Firefox)
2. Verify wireless router name( on the computer) >>> ( on/off) ( router status window)
3.Note router name you are connecting to.
4.. Check the laptop do ipconfig /all to see current IP addresses.
5. Set the laptop up in the router by WEP KEY or MAC address. This set up in the "security tab" in the router. using 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 to access through a browser.
6.Note router name you are connecting to.
7. Move the laptop/desktop/MAC about 20ft away and try to log on to the internet.
This is for all routers to set up wirelessly.
8. check for firmware update at the manufacturers site for your model router
9. cell phones, cordless phones, digital TV's, can affect the data signal from a router. Also distance from the router can be a factor. If your router is in a basement place the router to a upper floor and center it in the room.

Desktop will not connect to internet when router is connected unplug and go through modem will connect linksys program that came with router will not recognize the router when you setup, worked for over 2...

Each network adapter (in the Linksys router, or in your computer) has a unique 12-character code. Some ISPs (Internet Service Providers) will require you to "register" this 'MAC' (Media Acquisition Control) address, before they grant an IP-address to the device (router or computer). So, when you "bypass" the router, you're showing a different MAC-address to the ISP, and they are not allowing that MAC-address to get connected. Talk to your ISP.

Or, some cable-modems check the MAC-address, allowing just one or two computers to connect. Turn the cable-modem off, to make it "forget" the MAC-addresses that have connected to it.
Connect the router to the cable-modem.
Turn the modem on.
Turn the router on.
Connect your computer to the router.
Restart your computer.

Or, maybe the router really is "dead'; try the above, before choosing this option, and before buying a new router.

Modem light keeps blinking Have tried resetting. Restoring to default settings. If I hook the computer directly to the time warner modem I can acces the internet fine. Thanks

If the modem light keeps blinking, it means that the router hasn't been configured yet. Also, rarely, it can be an issue with WAN port/modem port on the router or the ethernet cable connecting the modem to router or finally, modem may not be working as its not applicable in this case(as you said).
How to configure the router for Time Warner?
1.Connect comp.--(gray port) router (yellow port)--modem
2.On the computer, open the router page by typing 192.168.2.1 in the address bar of browser
3.Under Internet Settings, change the connection type as Dynamic.
4.On the far left column, click on "MAC address" under Internet WAN.
5.Click on clone and apply changes and finally check Internet status
6.If internet status > Not connected, we need to do a network power cycle
7.For this, unplug the power from router, then from modem, then unplug the coaxial cable from cable modem.
8. Wait for 10 sec, then connect the coaxial cable, then connect power to modem, wait for lights on modem to get steady, then finally, plug in the power to router.
Now, you may see proper lights lit on the router.
All my best wishes for a fast internet service through the router.

For any advanced help, revert asap!
Thanks and regards,
Arvind

Connection issue

Hi! I believe your having some issue with your router and I will be more than glad to assist you in this concern..Time warner cable is your isp and if the computer is connected directly to the modem, you have a perfect internet connection but if you are going to connect the cable from your modem to the router and you connect your computer to port 1 to 4 of your router it will not give u an internet connection. This is what we are going to do.
1. connect your computer that can get an internet connecttion thru time warner cable to the router on port1.
2. pull up a browser and type in the default gateway of the router, to check the default gateway of the router, right click the network icon on the lower right of the task bar and click status and it will show the ip address, subnet and default gateway, ex the default gateway is 192.168.1.1, u are going to type in the default gateway ip address to the url of the browser.
3. It will ask u for the username and password, by default the username is admin and the password is 1234 or just leave it blank.
4. It will pop up the setup page of the router and you have to look for the setting for doing a mac clone, you need to clone the mac address of your pc that can connect to the internet thru time warner cable modem.
5. once its done, save the settings and on the internet connection settings, manualy configured it to auto-dhcp. save the settings.
6. once its done..unplg the power of the computer, router and modem.
7. cable connection should be, cable from the modem goes to the WAN port of the router and connect cable on port 1 of the router to your computer on the lan port.
8. Plug in 1st the power of the cable modem, once all lights are lit then plug in the power of the router, once all lights are solid on the router, like the power, WAN, u will notice that there is no light on the port1, computer is still off, once the computer is on port1 will lit, then power on the computer..once computer is completely boot up, pull up a browser and it should gives u an internet connection.
9. Once you have an internet connection, u can access again the setup page of the router to setup the wireless connection settings.
10. If you are going to connect another to the existing router that is conneted to the time warner cable. that is possible, but before u connect the 2nd router to the 1st router..
a. connect the 2nd router to a computer to set it up..you have to access the setup page of the 2nd router.
b. once you access the setup page, there is a menu for the lan settings that is for the router side. u need to change the 3 octet of the ip address of the 2nd router. ex your 1st router ip address is 192.168.1.1 and the 2nd router ip address is 192.168.1.1 to change the 3 octet of the 2nd route, the 2nd router ip address should be 192.168.2.1. then save the settings..
c. the router will reboot and need to access the setup page of the router by using the 192.168.2.1 and u can set the wireless connection settings.. once its done..
d. cable connection should be---cable from the time warner cable goes to the WAN port of the 1st router, connect a cable to port 4 of the 1st router going to the WAN port of the 2nd router.. this process is called cascading two routers on a network.. this should work.. good luck

Problems adding new MAC address

Ok... this is an easy fix..first, turn off all the equipment including any laptops with wi-fi. then TURN ON YOUR MAIN ROUTER FIRST. Secondly turn on the cable modem..be sure its connected to the already turned on router. This will establish the router as your address the cable modem will set up as the main mac address. Then go ahead and boot up any other routers, and computers and wifi... That should keep everything connected because the router will delegate all the addresses to everything and the modem should remain "happy" with the router addres..

Let me know if this helps... and if you need anymore help.

Linksysy asks for a network key (Wep key or WPA key)

1. Using a computer that is wired to the router, access the router's setup page by typing 192.168.1.1 on the address field of your browser.
2. By default there is no username and password is admin.
3. Once you're in the setup page, click wireless then there is a sub tab there called wireless security.
4. You will find there the wireless key that is enabled in your router.

Can not connect to the internet in trying to setup the router.

Yes time warner is a cable connection and they dont require a username and pasword. You can set up the router manually by accessing its set up page. By default the router's IP is 192.168.2.1. Make sure to set the wan connection type to dynamic, change the wan mac address or clone your pc's mac. Then save the settings. Check your internet connection.

Losing internet connection when I try to connect laptop to wireless router

Your cloning the mac address - thats the problem. It should use it's own mac address to connect to the modem. You need to power down the modem, then repower after a minute or so to let it connect to the new mac address. The problem you are seeing is due to network collisions betweenj the desktop and the router with the modem.
