The write speed of your machine is 4x. It will only write at 4x no matter how fast your DVD blank is. When your write at a slower speed, you get a better quality DVD picture.
I had the same problem before upgrading my RAM. Seems video burning software like nero are RAM hogs; if you do not have a large amount of RAM then it slowers the burning speed down to a crawl.[ BTW I didn't get maximum burning speeds using nero on a Windows Vista computer until I upgraded to 2 GB RAM] Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer.
i have a pioneer dvr-111d as well. it reads dvds ok but as soon as i put in a cd-rom it dosent wanna know about it. any help would be appreciated. my email is [email protected].
The manual likely is at the Pioneer website. But why do you need it? These drives stick in your computer pretty easily, and only function if you have a good DVD burning program installed. Did it come with an installation CD? Your burning program may be on that. If you run into trouble, just call Pioneer--they owe it to you.
You should try updating the firmware in the burner.

Good Luck,

my sugestion is not to burn at 16x but to burn at 8x and use another burning software that allowsx you to burn at 8x speed as I've found I get alot of errors at max burn on my burner.
so I dropped the burnner speed and have not had any problems with burning.
hope this helps
