sounds like your vertical circuit was going bad then might have overheated and killed the power supply. a repair cost might range around $300.00

My mother hit a botton and doesnt know what see hit but she last picture and volume. she unpluged tv and pluged it back in the picture came back but no volume. she said a black and gray screen had come up...

She may have hit the SAP or MUTE button on the remote.

The backlight inverter board may have gone out, or the power supply for the inverter may have gone out. If it is two years old, you should look at the power supply first for bad capacitors.
