PS2 Memory Card Read Error

The system doesn't recognize memory card in slot. If I hold it in REAL firmly we may be able to save a game on occasion Playstation 2 does not recognise any memory cards in either slot, I have tried several to no avail - it just says no memory card inserted.

Assuming you've got the right cards for your system, there are two tests you need to perform:

1. Borrow a memory card from a friend and try saving files to it and then reading them. If this does not work, your PS2 is probably broken and you'll need to get it fixed.

2. If other memory cards work in your system, go over to a friend's house and test your memory card in their system. If this does not work, you know that your memory card is busted and needs to be replaced.

Clean the memory slot with isopropyle alcohol

  • Anonymous Apr 08, 2008

Use a ear cleaning swab and dip it into isopropyle alcohol which is easily available in the market and try to clean the metallic contacts and it should work but make sure you turn off the device while you do so.

My ps2 slim memory cards work on the main screen, but i'm trying to play a ps1 game and as i try to save the game, it says that there is no memory card present. I bought another card with more memory.....

You can't save PS1 games on a PS2 memory card. You need to buy a PS1 memory card to save PS1 games. The PS1 card will plug into the standard memory slot on a PS2, but the insides are different.

I have no manual my problem is I have a First Generaiton Ps3 and would like to transfer my Ps2 memory card and cant figure it out. pleae help thank you Nichole

Prerequisites There is no PS2 memory card slot in the PS3 so will need a Memory Card Adaptor. Sony made an official adapter but there are also a number of cheaper alternatives. Buy one online:
Steps
  1. Plug your PS2 memory card into the adaptor
  2. Plug the adaptor into a free USB port on your PS3
  3. Go to the "Game" menu in the XMB and choose "Memory Card Utility (PS/PS2)"
  4. If the adaptor is working you should see an item called "Memory Card (PS2)". Below the title should be the size of the card and how much is in use-in my case "1334 KB / 7998 KB"
  5. Press the controller's Triange button to get the Memory Card options. Select "Copy"
  6. Select "Yes" to confirm the copy from memory card to the hard drive
  7. Enter a name for the new Internal Memory Card that will be created on the hard drive, or leave the default name. I named mine "Original PS2 saves". Select "OK"
  8. The data will be copied. If the amount of saved data is too large, the system will automatically create multiple internal memory cards
  9. You may be informed that the new internal card has been assigned to a "slot". These slots are an emulation of the physical memory card slots in the PS2, so similarly you may only have two internal/virtual cards "plugged in" (assigned) at a time. The internal memory card must be assigned to slot 1 or 2 to be available when you run PS2 games
  10. The new internal memory card should now be showing in the XMB, under Game > Memory Card Utility
  11. Selecting the card will allow you to browse the game saves that were copied across!

Slot one not reading cards properly.

There isn't way to fix this easily. I recommend taking it to Geek Squad and having them look at it. Although it may be cheaper just to purchase a new Ps2.

PS2 Memory Card Read Error

I must assume that the card you are talking about is not a Sony brand memory card. Sony Playstations are very picky with memory cards and can cause strange malfunctions even permanent damage if they are not Sony brand or Sony approved memory cards. Sorry that doesn't fix it, but my brother lost his by using a non Sony memory card. It fried the machine.

Ps2 won't read ps1 memory card

PS2's don't read PS1 memory cards outside of the browser screen. It can only be used as access memory. Hope this helped. As for the slots it might be only fixable by a mechanic.
