just a sugestion, on the tray itself on the underside is there a metal clip that when the draw is inserted back into the body does the clip stop the draw from coming all the way out? have a look at this it might help, appart from that i am at a loss i am affraid, but good luck on finding it...

a middle aged HP CLJ 4500; a middle drawer (transfer area) paper jam, unusually involving about 6 sheets; once the paper was removed, the transfer roller was found to be dislodged at the left end; after refit, the drawer will not close by about 1.5" (but closes fine with transfer assembly in place). I cannot see the interference. I found three references to the identical problem last night, but no answers.
I have (and have fitted) a new transfer kit, including new roller; no change.
