Maybe that is the problem of your DVD. Try playing the DVD on another DVD player program, such as leawo Blu-ray player which can play Blu-ray and DVD. Then you can try updating your DVD decoder in your windows media player. You can check on this article to solve the DVD playback issue on Windows Media Player:

You may need codecs in order to play most DVD videos and other formats like DivX. Use this codec pack here. Select the Media Player Classic as the application while you were asked to provide it. K-Lite After that both of your players are ready to play DVDs (its better to have Media Player 11 in your system for a better experience) Enjoy your movie!

Did download a VLC but Win Media Player says"

Did you try playing the dvd using VLC instead of windows media player?

VLC is a separate player for media files. It will not enable Win media player to play DVDs but WILL play DVDs very nicely on it's own.

If you still want to get win media player to work you might try installing this free codec pack : http://download.cnet.com/Media-Player-Codec-Pack/3000-13632_4-10749065.html

  • Download.
  • Install.
  • Restart computer.
Hopefully you should be good to go.

Good luck ;)

Acer aspire 2930 DVD player only opens some dvds

Try Media player classic under k-lite codec pack. Then open video files on the dvd. If it doesn't help try another codec player. If nothing helps could it be that dvd player is not capable of multilayer dvd reading.

DVD Movie

By default, Windows does not include a DVD decoder (which is what you need to watch DVDs).
If you are using WMP10: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/plugins.aspx
If you are using WMP11:
http://savvybytes.com/2006/10/02/playing-dvds-with-windows-media-player-11/

Install the codec and you will be able to watch DVDs!
