Screen Brightness I have an HP TouchSmart 600 and wireless keyboard. Today one of the keys on the keyboard broke so I had to but a new keyboard; however, one of key combinations to increase the brioghgtness of the screen was Fn and the F10 keys. I have no idea how to do that with the new keyboard because it doesn't have an Fn key

Windows 8 to 10 have the brightness control in the action center or power settings or look in the charms bar if your using windows 8 or 8.1 (note: if brightness doesnt change it maybe due to the OS not knowing how to change the brightness let me know if that ends up being the case)

SOURCE: side key functions on HP#5189 keyboard

Left side keys - moon-hibernating mode, club+hp - takes you to hp internet club (lots of resources, free classes, etc on hp), globe spinning-takes you to internet-yourhomepage, envelope-takes you to windows email, magnifying glass- takes you to windows live search, ?-takes you to help

right side keys- arrowup1-opens disk drive, arrow up 2-opens 2nd disk drive if you have two, solid dot-opens dvd suite, arrows left-rewind, arrow right -fast forward slow, 2 arrows right-fast forward fast, and solid square -pause these are all media functions

I discovered all of this by taking a chance and pushing the key to see what happened. really wish they put a manual, or screen showing functions for the keyboard. hope this helps someone else!

If the wrong characters appear when you are typing or you are trying to use a keyboard that is different than the one that came with the computer, use the following steps to synchronize Windows to the type of keyboard you have:

  1. Click Start c01311982.gif , and type region into the Start Search field.
  2. Select the Keyboards and Languages tab.
  3. Click Change Keyboards .
A Text Services and Input Languages window opens.

The new keyboard is added to the list of available keyboards and a keyboard icon appears on the system tray, allowing you to switch between the keyboard that you want to use with the mouse.

  6. From the Text Services and Input Languages window, select the new keyboard in the list and click Move up until it is first in the list. This makes it the default keyboard.

SOURCE: HP compaq 6710b - Hi I can't adjust the brigthness

You may have a defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashes on and off or displays reddish pink hue. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickers on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replace the CCFL lamp.
To determine if the video card or the LCD is faulty, connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight. It could be a faulty inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out; usually the CCFL lamp fails before the inverter.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Hp touchsmart 300

From the User Guide at... http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=4174137&

The wireless keyboard and mouse are pre-synchronized, for your convenience, to work with your

HP TouchSmart PC. The keyboard and mouse should work immediately after you pull the battery tabs to

activate the preinstalled batteries, and then turn on the mouse (A).

You may need to manually synchronize the wireless keyboard or mouse if they are not functioning.

To synchronize them:

Make sure the keyboard and mouse are next to the HP TouchSmart PC, within 30 cm (1 foot) and

away from interference from other devices.

Keyboard: Press the Connect button on the bottom of the keyboard (B) for five seconds. The blue

activity LED on the wireless receiver illuminates when the synchronization command has been received

and turns off when synchronization is complete.

Mouse: Press the Connect button on the bottom of the mouse (C) for five seconds. The blue activity

LED on the wireless receiver illuminates when the synchronization command has been received and

turns off when synchronization is complete.

If this does not work, remove and then re-insert the wireless keyboard and mouse receiver from the back of
the computer and then synchronize the keyboard and mouse again.

My wireless keyboard seems to be selective about which letters to acknowledge whenI type any faster than a two year old despite new batteries It is the one that came with the hp iq 775 touch screen desktop...

Wireless keyboards do have some delay, especially when the batteries are low, are you sure the batteries have a charge? Sometimes even new batteries are dead or very weak.

Some wireless keyboards only have a range of a few feet, but, moving it closer kinda defeats the purpose of having one in the first place.

Have you tried to go to (classic view): start>settings>control panel>keyboards... to make adjustments?

My touchsmart key board stopped working. it did this once before and I think I somehow pushed some buttons and accidentally got it working again but now it has stopped again. is there a button or switch...

looks like this is a wireless keyboard? If so there is usually a connect button on the bottom of the keyboard and/or on the unit itself. You may have just lost the keyboard to wireless receiver connection.
