Speed queen top load washer does not agitate properly
Speed queen top load washer only goes counter-clockwise during agitate cycle so it essentially just spins. Has a little bit of slow and back to clockwise, but not much.
I did some further investigating on the washer. I found that if I secure the tub during the agitate cycle, the agitation appears to work fine. My limited knowledge would led me to think the brakes need to be replaced. Is there something that would "apply" the brakes or could the pads just be that worn? Another bit of information -- my wife has commented that the washer takes a long time to stop spinning after being turned off (end of load, lid lifted).I did some further investigating on the washer. Re: Speed queen top load washer does not agitate properly
You need to see if the motor turns one direction during wash and the other during the spin. If so, your gearbox is faulty and needs replacement. If motor only goes in one direction at all times, then very possible, the timer is faulty.

Hi, just fixed the daughters speed queen, same problem. The three brake shoes were worn allowing the tub to spin with the agitator.
replaced the shoes, washer fine. At first I thought it was the top ring. spent 30 dollars for nothing.
good luck
You should be able to get a replacement agitator from partselect.com or repairclinic.com. look on line for an agitator however How old is the washer, would you give me the serial number.
