Either a bad stylus or the weight on the tone arm needs setting for the cartridge used.

On the Wurlitzer OMT 1015 45rpm jukebox the needle is skating over the record?

Incorrect weight on the stylus arm, or the speed is wrong, or the stylus is worn, or full of fluff.

Why has the part of the arm that holds the balance weight come adrift?

Unit may need a skating adjustment. If the needle still stakes across the record check to make sure the tone arm weight is at least 1.5 grams if good you may need a new stylus or needle. a stylus and a needle are the same thing. Larry

When I lower the needle on to the record it simply slides across the record to the centre

Not enough weight on the arm, adjust the weight on the arm end. Can also be a build up of dust on the needle.

The arm with the needle slides across the LP record - doesn't pick up sound

This is often a problem when you are using a 78 needle on a 45 or 33 record. Some needles can be flipped, so check to see if yours is able to flip between the 78 and 33 setting. If not, you may simply need a new one.

After placing the needle on the record it immedialty skims across the entire records to the center of the record

Check your anti-skating knob. It should be set at the same value as the tone arm weight. Also look at the needle with a magnifying glass and make sure the diamond is not broken off

All the arm does whenever I try to play a record is move across the record. This even happens with a brand new needle. I'm ready to get a new turntable.

there is a counter balance on the side of the arm called an anti skating weight.it prevents the grooves on the record from pushing the stylus inward, wearing out one side.when the anti skate weight system has a fault,it drags the arm toward the center of the record faster than needed.there is also a weight on the back of the arm.that is the balance.when set to zero, the arm should balance.then the weight is turned to 1 gram or so.if there is not enough force downward, the anti skate mechanism will drag the arm inward.

Stylus skates across record; doesn't engage grooves

Increase the weight of the arm, check if it has anti-skate control.

Needle skipping & not pushing down

There should be an "anti-skate" adjustment to control the arm moving across the record. It is possible that lubrication has stiffened up as well. This unit may need a general overhaul/cleaning.

Fisher price 1978 record player

The Fisher Price record player has a device that prevented kids from pressing the needle down and sctratching the record. If you look at the cartridge where the needle is inserted, you will see that it floats up and down. The problem is that this keeps the needle from having enough pressure to play the record. Pennies just make the cartridge recede further into the arm. If you wedge something above the cartridge, the needle won't float and the it will play your records. I've had four of these and none of them worked until I figured this out.
