Sudden occurance, flashing code "7" on standby light, sony will not tell me what that means, only 7 years old. Just want to know if repair is a cost effective vs replacing
SONY'S "AUTHORIZED" REPAIR COMPANY (ELECTRA SOUND) SENT A REPAIR MAN TO MY HOUSE TODAY. HE COUNTED THE BLINKS, CALLED HIS OFFICE, TOLD THEM IT WAS A CODE 7, THEY HAD HIM WRITE AN ESTIMATE TO REPAIR "D" BOARD AND REPLACE CONNECTOR WIRE. HE EXPLAINED THEY CANNOT FIX THE BOARD, IT HAS TO BE SENT TO SONY. TV WOULD BE TORN DOWN FOR A MONTH AND COST WOULD BE 371.00 I COULOD NOT AFFORD THE COST, SO HE CHARGED ME 95.00 FOR THE "DIAGNOSIS" HE NEVER EVEN TOUCHED THE TV! The power supply is not starting up. The most likely cause is two defective integrated circuits in the power supply section. If you are technical, I can supply you with the part numbers and where they are located.

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
Blinking codes details to many popular brand TVs are given. Surf the site with patience.
Hi,
Flashing standby light is an error code that is specific, there would be pause of 3 seconds in flashing, so count pause to pause and let me know that how many times red standby light is blinking to diagnose problem.
Thanks.
Start by changing the lamp. If you got 5 years out of the old one, count your blessings, most folks only get three. The lamp is designed to be replaced by the consumer. Ebay will carry a replacement for you or you can get it directly from rivervalleyelectronics.net. They've got good prices. The lamp door is on the back. Its really easy, give it a shot.
Since the TV is still receiving power, the problem is going to be with the TV's mainboard. After you unplugged the TV and plugged it back in, you said the power light went out again, so I assume the standby light wasn't flashing again? The flashing standby light is indicating an error code so my suggestion is to contact Sony for service options regardless if there is a warranty or not because service is the only solution to this situation. Don't forget to provide them the error code or 4 flashes repeating.
Yes, the blinks are error codes. I would not bother trying to figure out what they mean, I can tell you right now. Expensive repair. Average repair costs are 1/4 to 1/2 of the TV's current worth. Most likely a bad transistor. The average expected life span of a TV set is 3-5 years. After that, stuff starts wearing out fast. Time to move on.
4 flashes mean the IC5004 (STV9379)on D-Board went bad and the 15V supply is no longer steady. The IC
is rather easy to find and inexpensive (around $2.50). Your main
problem will be desoldering the old one and soldering the new one. CAUTION! - Heat sink on IC5004 is -15V. Care must be taken not to allow heat sink to touch any other components
I have a Sony KDS-R60XBR2 60" SXRD and the power/standby light flashes green 96 times than it switches to a RED lamp light that flashes steady. Do you know what it means?
A few weeks ago my set started flashing to a black screen. Now a couple of weeks later, i have no picture, but the set turns on and i have sound. The standby light is flashing. I purchased the set in 2000 so it is seven years old. This is the first problem. Could it be all three of the bulbs?
Could it be all three of the bulbs?
no
as you say that sound is ok that means your power supply &high voltage section is ok.
please check chroma ic luminance section or system control section stand by ckt
ihanks
