Audio problem; volume needs to be turned to highest level to hear a whisper. was fine last night when tv and tuner were turned off. when turned on today. the audio was non existent, turned volume to highest level to get just a whisper of volume.

Maybe some wire is faulty... Try to disconnect everything and connect each speaker one by one, first trying only radio tuner and then trying to connect the TV and other devices. Using that you can isolate the fault into the specific component/wire.
On the TV-use your finger to adjust the volume level, about midway, then use the remote to shut off the tv, then turn on tv with remote. Volume level should be better! If still not loud enough...using your finger on the tv...turn up volume & repeat remote steps.
I connected my surround sound to the audio output on my samsung tv and it works fine. Of course I don't have an hdmi input on my surround sound system because its an older model, but it works great. Just got to put the surround sound to audio instead of dvd or tuner setting
You'll want to turn of the TV speakers in the Remote Menu and try turning up the volume level of the TV, which usually controls the level of the RCA outputs, as well
When the volume increased did the display show it doing so as if someone was turning the knob? I mean did the volume go from like level 15 to 30 or did the unit's level stay constant while the audio volume increased? Were you alone or sharing the room with a jokester who has a universal remote? Does this problem occur when the batteries are removed from your remote? Are you sure the 'volume up' button on the unit itself is disengaging properly after being pressed?
Hi, I'm guessing your turning up the volume on the TV box to control the volume of your speakers. By doing this your only controling the audio strength coming out from the TV box.
What you should be doing is turning up the volume on your TV or amp feeding your speakers rather than the direrct TV box. The level of the speakers may have been reduced form last week (other people messing about with your equipment?) which is the reason why you have to turn it up to 30 rather than 10.
Another problem could be a loose audio connection from you direct TV box to your amp or TV. Have you tried a different source such as a DVD player, and does the sound on that seem alot quiter than before? If the volume of this is alot quiter also it could be a problem with your speakers.
if there is no problem with the surround sound, you have a problem with the volume regulation circuit or with the main amp of this TV set, But to say the least is you have a backup to fix your problem, with the sound system, you said it works fine. this could run ya about 250 to 400 to repair.
