No sound

It cant be the drivers if you were running your machine and if tried using the onboard sound card, compaq drivers are included in most operating systems (Windows especially).

I know it will sound crazy but
  1. have you tried to check your volume settings i.e. in windows volume control unmute everything and increase the volume of all the bars especially WAV, MIDI, and MASTER,
  2. Have you tried using diffrent speakers or even headphones
From what you say it cant be drivers neither is it your card. And since your card was playing before then its compatible.
