It sounds like the UMD drive is shot. This does happen to the PSP sometimes. You can replace them but the time and the cost of doing so usually doesn't constitute it. Mainly buy a new one. The PSP still has value and use to it. You can purchase a pandora's battery and modify the PSP. By modifying the PSP you can play games directly from the memory stick and not use the UMD drive at all. A pandora's battery usually run about 20-25 bucks and come with full instructions on how to use them. Or you could make some cash by using ebay or craigslist to sell like I said you still have value with the psp even if the UMD drive is non functioning. Hope this helps

hey i dont know if this will work but go to the recovery menu, if u know how? then go to configuration and enable the vsh menu...reboot your psp, push select and set the umd iso mode to m33 driver...Of course there is the other problem, did u install a cfw or ofw?

this only works for 1000 series and 2000 series!

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/688507 go to kanelitas message and he will tell you how to install the files needed to mod your psp! if you have a newer psp 2000 series im not sure you will be able to make a pandoras battery with the programs provided by psp pandora deluxe! 1000 may be able to run pandora installer but i havent tryed it with a regular fat battery on a 1000 series!

So my point is i can tell you how to install the files with psp pandora deluxe to your memory stick but if you cant make a pandoras battery with the programs provided it may not work with official firmware!

A pandoras battery lets you run a program that lets you install a m33 driver[ modded software ] so in the hopes that you have a 2000 series or lower here i go!

ok So Kanelita states you dont need a pandoras battery! wow i cant say thats true! cause see since i have a pandoras battery i have a treasure im lucky to have obtained. so heres what i did with a pandoras battery! but he claims you dont so stiil try it!

It sounds like you need a new LCD screen. That should fix the problem. They are very easy to install, just make sure you get a SHARP brand, and also be sure to get it for the right model. Currently three different types of LCD screens, one for PSP 1000 (original fat) models, one for PSP Slim (2000) series, and Slim 3000 series. They run about $50-$75 but should fix your problem. Hey it's cheaper than buying a new PSP right?

alright u dont have custom firmware u can not flash a psp 3000 so just get the chickhen mod it is limited but hey what works works right? anyways just look it up on google or youtube and u should find out how to use it i dont use it but my friend does.

fact: it is illegal to download those games fact: it is possible to brick ur psp in the process fact: to do it go to a hack site download the downgrader (i dont hink ther is one for 3.5 tho) then run it on ur psp opinion: dont do its too risky hoped this helped :)
