I have the same problem witha wega tube CTV can hear sound then turns itself off no picture ?
Then the problem is in the main power supply section and will need to be analysed by a technician; if you can find one for conventional TVs in your area.
We are becoming rare.
If the set had been otherwise OK before this failure, I would recommend having it repaired since it will probably outlast any new flat panel set you might buy, they are not very reliable and service for them is expensive.
You can check for yourself by doing a search here at Fixya on 'LCD TV' and you will see a variety of makes and models with problems, many of them only a year or two old.
Andalex: Your problem is not likely caused by the same failed components as the original poster.
If the audio section is still able to produce sound, even if only briefly, the area in which the problem is likely to be is the high voltage/horizontal sweep section that is responsible for producing the ~25KV needed by the CRT and th signal that moves the trace back and forth across the screen.
Certain types of components in this same area can cause the set to shut download because of excessive current being drawn and that this is delayed somewhat, the audio circuit can operate briefly.
My advice about having the set repaired applies here too. . .

did you ry to unplug from the wall for at least 3 min then plug back in if that does not work try pushing the tv button and reset at the same time on the remote for 1 min if this does not work please take it to a repair center

This is a hardware problem which can't be done by the owner of this tv. Try to find a technician who will help you.

Does the set ever come to any video or audio? Knowing this would help.
no, it just turns itself off after 2 or 3 seconds...
