I have a sony vaiao vgn-fs640/w notebook. After over a week away from home i went to power it up and start playing on it. I plug the ac adapter into the wall and the little green light came on. I plugged the other end into the laptop expecting the charging light to be blinking but nothing. What would cause it not to be getting power?

Check the key isn't stuck down first, if not you may have a corupt driver, go to my computer< right click>properties>hardware tab>device manager and then in the next window, go down to keyboards, click on the'+' sign and right click on the line and select uninstall. Restart you pc and the keyboard will be re installed automatically and the driver loaded. Try again.

SOURCE: Laptop battery and AC adapter

Replace the power supply first, chirping is not good, and if the supply has a low output it could be putting out just enough to run the machine and not enough to charge the battery. Starving the machine for power can damage the machine or the battery, so, you may still need a battery, but you won't know until you replace the supply. If you do need a battery, aftermarket or generic batteries are fine. I've used them and had no problems. Many times you'll find that the aftermarket batteries are made by the same company that the laptop manufacturer uses, they just don't have the label, it's this way with damn near all the laptop manufacturers.

SOURCE: Sony Vaio PCG 7v2l won't turn on

this may or may not be the solution but its some sort of indication of what is going on. Ok when you plug the ac adapter do u get a flashing light to indicate your batter is being charged? If you do then there is power going through the laptop to the battery, which is great. Now if you don't have the indicator flashing then it could be that the where the AC adapter plugs to the laptop could be now faulty. The other one could be that the AC adapter plug i.e. head that goes into the laptop some how internally has a severed connection.

comment on what you find and ill see what else i can advice :)

SOURCE: My sony vaio vgn-fs285e will not switch on.

Hi,
To check if the problem is the power adaptor or the Vaio, just have a look at the charger itself and see if the green light on the adaptor itself is on?If yes, then more likely it is working fine. If no light, change the fuse in the plug and try again.
You can also try a static discharge on the Vaio. Please remove all external devices, unplug the adaptor and remove the battery. Put your finger on the power button and hold it for about 30 seconds. Then connect the power adaptor again and try to boot.
Regards,
Purito

Sony Vaio Model VGN-FS640/W does not show having a battery.

The main battery needs to be replaced, or the charging ciruit on the motherboard is not working, remove main battery get a stiff toothbrush and clean terminals in the laptop incuding the battery, if no change! check the device manager to see if battery is present, if no! reset bios to factory default.

What cable do I need to connect my Sony vaio VGN FS640 Laptop to my RCA TV and where does this cable connect to, on my laptop? My RCA TV has a SVideo connection.

To output video from your laptop you will need to use VGA out.

What you want to buy is a VGA to S-Video adapter, making sure that both the VGA and S-Video have male connectors.

This solution will not output audio.
