That sounds like an adjustment issue. Say you leave something in the path of the garage door coming down. As soon as it hits it, it is going to immediately stop and move back up. With the garage door improperly adjusted, it is "thinking" it is hitting something when it touched the ground. There should be adjustment screws on the motor. Check your user manual to reference.
If your garage door will not close from the open position and reverses immediately or part way down there is a safety beam problem, usually there is a safety light on the opener which will flash when the safety beam is activated or faulty. Clean the photo beams with a clean damp cloth, check if the door now operates, if it does not, check that the safety beams have not become misaligned, there is normally a light on one of the sensors that indicates when they are correctly aligned, if the light is on it means they are not aligned, the light off indicates they are aligned. If they are not aligned try adjusting them, if this does not work they are probably faulty. Further reading garage door opener repair guide
I can't help you on programming.
If the door goes up as soon as it touches down, it is going too far down.
Locate the adjustment on the box on top. There should be four adjusters:
Door down amount more or less
Door up amount more or less
Force down more or less
Forch up more or less.
Turn the Door down amount toward the "LESS" or "-"
Let me know how you do.

make sure that the auto matic reverse circuit light is being read correctly. they is a light extending a beam of infared light, you can't see it, to a reflector across the garage at the floor level at the garage opening. There should be an indicator light, usually green and red. Line up the light and reflector until the green light comes on.
The code you are seeing with 5 blinks is "RPM sensor or motor overload." We can eliminate the motor overload because the door is trying to close. The RPM sensor is a small printed circuit board just in front of the motor. It's a snap to replace and is available at any good door opener company. They will know exactly what you are talking about if you ask for an RPM sensor board.
There will be adjustment knobs on the side of the unit. Usually two white knobs that you have to turn with a small flathead screwdriver. These are the limit / load adjustments.
These adjustments are VERY sensitive, so be patient!
