I have a minn kota riptide sp 55 that will not run

I have a minn kota riptide sp 55 that I just bought a few weeks ago. today was the 3rd time I used it. Today both the remote and the wireless foot pedal would not turn the unit on. When they would turn it on it would not run at full power even though it would beep as if the power was being turned on. It would only work only work sporadically and some times even the left and right on both remotes would not work. I checked every connection from the motor to the wireless reciever, the power plug and the battery connection. I would not expect something like this from a brand new unit.

SOURCE: Minn Kota power drive trolling motor will not

There is a good chance that he control board is bad. This is a common problem with these units. I have replaced my control board twice.. When the control board goes out, the some function of the unit will not work correctly while other functions work fine. The first time mine went out, the prop motor would not work. The last time the board went out, the unit would only steer right.

SOURCE: my minn kota riptide 55 stopped working when i

Hi!
To start with, here's a schematic:
RT55 Hand Control
Sounds like key# 87 broke....seen it before.
To replace it, remove top cover, then remove the handle portion by removing the 5 screws underneath. There are a few peices in there, so keep close watch. Also be careful of the fine ribbon wire attaching the handle to the control board...it's pretty fragile.
Best of luck!
Mike

Pushing the speed increase and the speed decrease buttons on the remote at the same time sets the audio output mode to one of 3 modes.

SOURCE: minn kota riptide 55 bow

Sounds as if the motor has either bearings going bad and/or water has gotten in the housing washed the lubricants out. Motors do wear out eventually. I'm not sure if the brushes are replacible. Have you checked for any constrictions like fishing line? And also the contacts on the controller could have minor corrosion meaning take it apart if possible and clean with steel wool or a dremel.

Minn kota will turn on and off with remote, but will only turn 1" to each side.

take off the top cover on the head of the motor and see if there are any restrictions to the movement of the cable. it may be the cable itself is rusted internally and may need replacement. call min kota on the 800 number on the motor for prices for any patrs you may need.

No response

I just put one on my boat today and had no problem with either the test button or running the motor while the boat is on the trailer. Your message said the "battery" is new. Did you get a 24 volt motor by mistake? If so, it won't run on a single battery.
