Is there a way to manually adjust the convergence on a Hitachi HDTV modol #43FDX15B?

Hi James,

If Auto Focus (Auto Convergence) won't complete the set-up stop trying to adjust it. There is a fault in the convergence circuit!! ICs have to be replaced and maybe some burnt resistors.

If you access the service set-up menu and try to adjust the "defective" circuit the Auto-focus may not work correctly after the IC's, etc are replaced. Experienced technicians know that the service menu allow easy resetting to correct the misalignment, etc. "First Time" technician can be easily misled, waste a lot of effort and never get a correct picture.

If you want to attempt the repair, buy the correct parts from a service guy that does this type of work. I suggest having the repair done by a local competent technician that is experienced with Hitachi Convergence Problems. It is considerably more challenging than changing a fuse.

Our Convergence Gallery shows a variety of Convergence Faults. If you live in Toronto, ON., Calgary, AB., or Vancouver BC. it costs $257 for Hitachi in home convergence repair.

Good luck.

Hitachi 43fwx20b. Blue color will not reset in auto or manual focus. If it is convergence what and where do I need to look to locate them in the set?

the convergence is an automatic adjustment. if the auto isn't working after you tell it too from user menu, then the convergence amp is not working. this requires a tech or a good hobbiest. most of these amps are just ( stk's ) chips 3 in the unit you should replace all 3 making sire there is enough heatsink compound on them.

Auto focus and manual focus(red+will not move left

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Convergence problem

Replace the Convergence amplifiers. Mine did the same. It was like watching a 3D movie without the glasses. It is not hard to do for someone who knows their way around a circuit board repair. Otherwise call a reputable service shop.

One color Bow-tie Effect.

SAMSUNG Convergence Problem

It looks like blue convergence. Look at menu, select convergence and see if blue top is bent down on convergence adjust screen. Probably won’t adjust.

Some Samsungs have convergence IC’s on a separate convergence board in the back of the TV. Others have the IC’s mounted on the main deflection board. Either way the board has to be removed to get at the dud IC’s and associated burnt resistors.

You remove the appropriate board, determine if any resistors are burnt or damaged, replace any burnt or out of tolerance resistors, replace 1 or 2 IC's and re-install the board.

Now you have to adjust it to look like new.

If the unit has not been misadjusted and everything is OK now, running the auto focus may put the picture back to it’s previous stunning quality as it was before IC failed.

If after Perfect Focus it is still misadjusted noticeably, try the customer convergence adjustments. Operators’ manuals are available on web through searching.

If convergence can not be adjusted properly, you messed up chip install or resistors may be wrong value or open; or it needs major adjustment.

If you live around Calgary, Alberta try me instead:

Or try to the find the repairperson part of this website (on the Homepage) and search postal code. Maybe you will be lucky and someone from your area is listed for Projection TV repair.

Most rookies doing this job will cause damage and not be successful. They will pay double for someone to fix their mess or end up scrapping the TV. It is not a simple task. It is more difficult than batteries on a remote.

Good Luck

Auto focus not fixing blue shadow

Well now the convergence IC's need to be replaced. they are two black IC on a metal heat sink and they start with STK on them. If you dont understand the schematic, dont attempt this repair by yourself, as you have to unsolder the old ones and resolder the newer ones back in. Also you may have small fusable resistors that went out also if the iC shorted out. Also the heatsinks need heat grease on them. seek out a pro to assist you in this repair.
