HOW TO FORMAT A WRITE PROTECT USB DRIVE

MY KINGSTON DATA TRAVELER SAY WRITE PROTECTED HOW CAN I FORMAT IT CAUSE WHEN I FORMAT IT DIRECTLY IT SAY DEVICE IS WRITE PROTECTED BUT MY USB DEVICE DOES NOT HAVE THAT KIND OF SPECIFICATION TO HAVE A WRITE PROTECT DISK

my kinsgton usb won't work. when i try to open the files on my pc,it says that it needs to be re-formatted. but when i try to re-formatit, it says that it can't be re-formatted because it iswrite-protected. i know that for floppy discs, you can choose to haveit write-protected simply by pushing/sliding a notch on the disc.however, i don't see any similar notch/button on my usb. how do i solvethis?

I have a 1 Gb TwinMos USB2 flash disk. I've tried to re-format it in several occasions but to no avail. The message shows that it cannot be formatted since the disk is locked. I shift the lock to the other end but still the same problem exists. Can you help me solve my problem? Thank you so much.

  • Anonymous Feb 21, 2009

Kingston DataTravelers don't have a switch. My other K. Datatravelers (1,2 and 4GB) work fine. The write protection won't let me format it. I want to delete files so I can put different ones on it. Ive tried a lot of different USB tools. Lockers, unlockers, formatter, repair,...
I understand that there is a way to edit the registry, but what is it replaced with? The one I have trouble with is a 2GB

First try to see is there any lock in your usb pen drive and see if its not locking the pen drive, because some pen drives comes with that option to protect usb ..if its not

Use the Registry Hack to Disable Writing to USB Drives
Here is the link .just download the zip folder and after opening the folder you will find a file just double click on it..

Remove the write protection on 2GB USB Kingston Data Traveler 100

Found this on Kingston site, doesn't help much but may point you in the right direction.

Unfortunately this unit does not have any security or write protection feature. If you receive a write protection message with this drive, check for the following:
  1. Verify that you are allowed to write to removable storage devices. There may be a security setting in the OS that disables write access to removable storage devices.
  2. Make sure you have not enabled write protection on the drive by using a third party software.
  3. If none of the above apply, the drive may be defective.

If this doesn'thave any movable switch. Actually very small switch on part of it. You got virus in it. Usually it is hidden, and usually name AUTORUN.INF. run scan to your usb drive.
