Question about Braun WK600 Cordless Electric Kettle

Red light's on... but no hot water!

Red operating light comes on but element doesn't heat the water

I have a cordless, but dont know the model. The red light comes on but does not heat the water. Please advise, if the element needs replacing and who repairs these kettles in Durban, South Africa. Tks Heather I have the Braun electric kettle pictured, presumably the WK600 model. My problem is not identical, but similar. The kettle worked perfectly (fewer than a hundred boiling sessions) until suddenly the two side red lights refused to illuminate and coincident to that the heating element stopped working, although an electrical sensing device indicates the base charging unit is receiving power. I've disassembled the bottom of the pot but can find nothing obviously wrong -- in fact, it looks brand new. I'm left wondering if one bulb burns out does this break the circuit to the heating element or is a different critical electrical component I can't see malfunctioning? If a solution is not available that I can implement, does anyone know of a repair shop to recommend, the cost for which won't approach that of just buying a new unit? Thanks. -- D. J.

Just a bit of clarification; the lights and heating element are both downstream of the thermal protection ( I had mine apart and had a look). Therefore the lights would be off if the thermal protection had kicked in.
Lights on but no heat means element has a problem. Could be loose wire but more likely burnt out. If you have a tamper proof TORX bit you can take the bottom cover off and check for continuity through the element. Isolate the lights from the element so your meter is not accidentally seeing continuity through the lights.

I think either the heating elements are bad or from moving it, something knocked loose like a small wire or piece of metal between the coils and the power supply. see if anything may need to get soldered, if everything looks fine then I would try and buy some new heating elements and put them in myself since it wouldn't be worth someone else doing it I believe. Please keep me updated, thank you

HI,

OK, inside the unit there are three items, the heating element, thermostat, and thermal fuse.What has happened is the element got too hot and the thermal fuse opened.There is no reset button.In some cases you may run across a defective heating element or thermostat but its not common.The fix would probably be replacement of the thermostat and thermal fuse.For this, you would have to contact a small appliance repair center in your area.

Check Fault Codes

If the display lights are flashing and there is an error code in the display window, check the wiring diagram and tech sheet in the dishwasher that will provide information on the fault.

Drain Pump

If lights are flashing on the control panel, the drain pump might not be working properly. For two-wire drain pump motors check them for continuity using an Ohm meter. If it's defective You'll need to replace it. Drain pumps are not repairable.

Touchpad and Control Panel

This will be a thermostat or element problem. The red light tells us that you have power to the unit. If you are handy you can test the thermostat and the element with a continuity tester. A voltmeter may also be used. This will tell you where the fault lies.

I ve seen this before.
Try turning on one buner at a time. Make the element red hot!. If one does not get red hot. make a note of that switch.
Some stoves create a way for a technician to know which switch is shorted and uaually it is the one that doesn't get red hot.
If all buners are red hot , preheat oven for 350 and wait. it should take 5min to heat up oven. if oven not hot ,one of the elements is blown

The surface cooking area may glow red when a heating element is ON.
Some parts of the surface cooking area may not glow red when a heating element is ON.
