I have a Garmin nuvi 650 car gps (2 years old) and the screen has started to freeze up. I followed the manual instructions and pressed to get the pre-boot mode. It worked for a short period of time. Then the other day I used it for a trip and on my way the screen froze again. I tried to hit the pre-boot mode but it didn't work. What is the problem?

Many problems it could be. Back up your files and do a factory reset.
If that doesn't work, it is probably a h/w issue.

SOURCE: garmin auto gps c330 freezes

"Black Screen"
It took a nap...

Waking up your c330...

If you left your Garmin c330 on running the battery will have 1% life left. If you turn c330 back on again, it will flash screen for 3 seconds then die, even charging it at this point will not wake it back up. TO BRING IT BACK TO LIFE... plug in the power home or car into Garmin c330. There is a tab in the front Garmin gray frame of your screen. You must take like your fingernails and under the logo "GARMIN" pull the whole gray plastic frame off. Underneath the plastic frame to the right hand side. There is a "RESET" button. Make sure power is plugged in while hitting reset. Your battery should come back to life. Cheers

Non-responsive touchscreen, cursor flashes top left will not allow to input pin code, loads maps and all buy no touch screen function, also did reset on back a few times nothing. Ken

I have a non-working Nuvi 650 with same problem. Garmin tech support says they do not support the Nuvi 650 and I will have to buy another one. My Garmin was only 2 years old when it failed.
I doubt I will be buying another Garmin.

Touch screen not responding at all. Garmin powers up okay.

This is Garmin's response to me after having the same problem on a 2 year old Nuvi 650: We are no longer replacing or repairing this model unit. However, let me give you some steps to try to calibrate the screen of your unit. The following 'Fix' did not work. I won't be buying another Garmin.
To recalibrate the touchscreen on your nuvi 600 series device please follow the steps below:

  1. Plug the device into the computer via USB data cable
  2. Double click My Computer (Mac Users can skip this step)
  3. Double Click the Garmin or nuvi drive
  4. Double click the Garmin folder
  5. Delete the GUPDATE.GCD file (if this file is not on the device please skip to the next step)
  6. Unplug the GPS device from the computer
  7. Power the device off
  8. Press and hold the Power button
  9. After a short period a screen should appear that says Touch Dot
  10. Release the Power button
  11. Touch the dots as they move around the screen.

Your touchscreen should now be recalibrated.

If the screen is still not responding, then the unit will need to be replaced with a new unit at this time.

Garmin Nuvi 650 powers off when connected with car

I had this problem. The problem turned out to be my car charger. Hooking the GPS up to my computer allowed it to charge and operate normally. A new car adapter might fix you right up.
