I have a companion 3 for my computer and been working perfectly then a cousin of mine used the plug-in for head phones then after that my speaker just stopped working !? I unplugged every thing and plugg it right back and all I get was a "humming sound from the sub" I put my old speakers and it's working so nothings wrong with my computer but any hope for my bose speakers?
Try going to control panel, sound, then configure the system to the Bose. Hope that works.
any luck? Further help available. If fixed, please note.
I can think of no reason why plugging in headphones could possibly cause harm to your speakers, so I think that is a coincidence. Something definitely has happened to your Bose system. Even if it is not in warranty, you should run this by Bose support: copy the whole discussion here and email support@bose.com or contact a Bose Support Specialist at 1-800-367-4008. I would love to hear what they come up with.
BTW, 3 people this week have complained of sudden buzzing from their Bose Woofers, all of which worked just fine previously, just connecting it to any electrical outlet, not even to a computer! Bose has to know what's going on. If the guy you talk with doesn't have an answer for you, demand to speak to his supervisor.

What happened to you is probably mere coincidence with your cousin's use of the headphones and this is throwing you off. I own the Bose Companions also and they stopped working as well. However, I traced the problem to the "wall wart" power supply. Not sure why but Bose is now using an interchangable plug on them. If you look at the power supply you will see a "PUSH" button. If you depress it the plug can slide out. When it is slid back in and locked in place the connection between the plug plate and the power supply is not a good one. Try fiddling with it. But even if the connection is not the culprit, something in the power supply is. I swapped another power supply with the same connector and spec's ( amps must be the same ) from another item and the speakers worked perfectly.
