Hi and welcome to FixYa
Initially, postback the model number of the Comcast digital adapter and the TV.
Offhand, if the Comcast digital adapter is connected to the Sony through a coaxial patchcord, then the Sony would really have to be set to Ch 4 (or 3). Channel selection is done on the Comcast digital adapter. It is not possible to record one channel while viewing another.
Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa
The model numbers are: Comcast Digital Adapter DTA 100/2305/000
FG NO. 551117-001
TV is a SONY KV32FS12
The Comcast remote works only for the TV
I have a SONY VCR/DVD remote.
Thanks
Thank you for the additional information.
The Comcast provided Motorola DTA 100 outputs the cable signals receive as a simulated Channel 4. Since the Sony DVD/VCR is directly connected to it, then the DVD/VCR can only receive Ch 4. However, what is shown in the simulated Ch4 is what was initially pre-selected by the Motorla hence channel selection is done on the Motorola. The DVD/VCR could not receive any other channel and therefore could only be programmed to record what is shown in Ch 4 (from the DTA 100). Scanning and channel setup on the Sony DVD/VCR would only result to a single channel received, Ch 4.
Recording is only possible as you have described. The Sony DVD/VCR to Ch 4, the channel you would want to record selected on the Motorola.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to record one cable channel while viewing another.
So, you are saying that I can only record the channel that is currently on the TV? Does that mean that if I want to record a future program, I have to have the TV set to that channel? I would be unable to record future programs set to the channel that is simultaneously on the TV?
Why wouldn't it work the same way as before adding the adapter?
What are my alternatives?
To the queries:So, you are saying that I can only record the channel that is currently
on the TV? - yes;Does that mean that if I want to record a future program, I
have to have the TV set to that channel? - yes, but the TV itself need not be powered on;I would be unable to record
future programs set to the channel that is simultaneously on the TV?
- no you can still do a timer record;
Why wouldn't it work the same way as before adding the adapter?
- before, the DVD/VCR could select the channels as well as the TV separately. With the new Comcast system, cable channel selection is done only by the DTA100.
What are my alternatives? - another Motorola DTA 100 for direct connection to the TV.
