Grill doesnt get hot it burns on low it starving for gas

I've been in the propane business 28 years and have found regulators from the 1950's still in use today. Regulator manufacturers tell us they should be replaced after 25 years. It should typically outlast the grill itself, which often require new burners, cooking grids, etc. The hissing sound can just be the flow of gas thru the regulator. If you smell gas however, then you should replace it. If it is affecting the pressure to the burners and not getting hot enough to cook properly, then replace it as well.

Turn off propane. Disconnect propane tank from barbecue. Open burner valves for about 20 seconds. Close valves. Reattach propane tank. Slowly open propane tank valve. Turn on burner and ignite

it could be the reg or a blockage in the line or open the taps on the grill then close them reconnect gas tank open slowly then tis if there is gas to grill

Try these steps in order.

1. Turn off the gas at the propane tank
2. Disconnect the gas line from the tank
3. Open the grill lid
4. Turn all control valves to high
5. Wait for about a minute
6. Turn all control valves to off
7. Reconnect the gas line to the tank
8. SLOWLY turn on the gas at the tank
9. Light the grill normally
10. Your grill should now heat normally

Check the orifice, they are the culprit most of the time. Be careful when cleaning the orifice its a small hole and you do not want to enlarge it.

Bad regulator?

I just experienced the same exact problem ! I just bought a brand new Weber E-310 a 3 burner grill.
After I seasoned it up with cooking oil,I turned all the burners to high, opened the tank and clicked electrnic button several times , the grill was on then I went inside, I came out about an half-hour later and it was saying around 275 degrees..
I looked into my manual and there is a gas limit control valve that shuts down gas flow, when it thinks there is too much gas flow.

Sloution;
Turn the propane gas knob to off
Turn the gas grill knobs to Off.
Click the igniter several times to clear out any gas.
Then unscrew the regulator from the tank,( I then blew into the tank hole and regulator),
Screw back on the regulator to the propane tank.
I then clicked igniter again couple of times.
Now open your propane tank.
Then turn on front burner while clicking igniter, this will lite 1st burner.
Then turn 2nd burner on low then to high.
And if you have 3rd burner or more, turn low then to high!

John I did this and my grill went to 600 plus in a few minutes!!

The problem was turning the gas grill knobs on first then opening the tank then lighting...
You have to open propane tank with knobs off, THEN AS SOON AS YOU TURN ON 1ST KNOB, YOU MUST IGNITE ...

One of the major problems with propane gas grills, including the Masterbuilt Veranda, is the pressure regulator. They get to where they do not release enough propane. Some, most, have an adjustment screw that will let you correct these problems. I think I replaced my Veranda regulator with another older pressure regulator from an old grill. Makes you crazy if you don't know this.

I had this same problem especially when the tank on my 5 burner 2 year-old Kenmore was about half full. The solution above fixed it. I was used to opening the gas fully, turning one burner to high and clicking the button. If I would have read the front of the grill I would have seen that this was incorrect. I turned off the grill completely, unhooked the regulator and reconnected it. With one burner on high I began clicking the button BEFORE I turned on the gas. I slowly turned the gas on one quarter turn and it lit up full flame. I slowly turned the gas another quarter turn and lit the second burner. I slowly opened the gas all the way and lit the third and so on. That did the trick!
