HI. On initial setup and installation, the temp control alarm is programed to not emit the alert buzz or sound. This board is very intelligent. It can tell when the unit has been installed, and will only show a blinking red light on initial setup. Now, Once the unit has reached the proper cooling temperature, the buzzer and alarm will be set. If the freezer warms past the set temperature after the initial installation period, this will induce the buzzer and red blinking light. There are no issues here at this time. What you are experiencing is perfectly normal, as of now.
Total capcity level will be 480 lbs of frozen food. I would store a bit less. around 390 lbs to be exact.
I should advise that there is an on/off switch in reference to the temperature alarm buzzer. You will need to make sure that the switch is in the on position. If it is set to off, it will not function correctly. it is located on the lower section of the unit(with the door open).
Additionally, which control are you referring to? There is a touch pad and a main PCB. Which one?
I am referring to the temperature alarm light on the handle.
I thought this one was supposed to blink until the freezer reached freezing temperature.
If the kill switch is set to off, this will not allow for the alarm light to blink during the initial start up. Check the on/off switch. Make sure it is set to the "ON" position. You will need to open the door to access the switch.
There is not an on/off switch inside.
According to my documents, the switch is located on the inside. On the bottom right corner panel. Once you have opened the door quickly look down to the bottom right hand corner panel. If you do not see it, your model number may be incorrectly posted.
I do not see a switch down in the right hand corner. The model number is: 253.21741106
as shown on the label inside the freezer. Serial number is: WB24338916.
Ok, In order to remove the overlay so that you may access the mounting screws on the control , you will need to remove the existing overlay. This overlay is held on be a strong adhesive. Once it is removed, you will need to purchase a new overlay. The overlay is covering the screws that are holding the electronic control on to the door. The circuit board is just behind the overlay and housing. This will be the culprit if there is no visible kill switch present.
NOTE_ There are some overlays that are tabbed(clips). You can test for this nature by inserting a flat-head screw drive at each corner of the overlay. If you are able to lift the corners a bit, this will confirm that there is no adhesive used, and it is held on be tabs. Gently work the overlay away from the control with the flat-head screw driver, if this is the case.

Hi,
The audible alarm is not enabled until the initial cool down period is complete. Here is what the manufacture says about the alarm:
When the freezer is initially plugged in, the red
Temp. Alarm
Indicator Light blinks. The indicator light will
continue to blink
until the freezer has reached a safe freezing
temperature. If a
malfunction causes an unsafe temperature inside
the freezer,
the red light will blink and the buzzer will sound. To
silence the
buzzer, press the ALARM OFF button. The Indicator Light
will
continue to blink until a safe freezing temperature is again
reached.
If it does not blink or alarm once the first cooling has taken place the alarm control would need replaced.
I believe this is a 21 cu ft model but not 100% sure on that one.
Is it a big deal to have this fixed? The light never blinked or the alarm never sounded.
Hi,
I have never replaced one before but I do not think it is a big job. Here is what the breakdown looks like for the model. The part number is 216845100
I am not sure what I am looking at in the diagram you sent. Where is this diagram
in relation to the rest of the freezer? I did do a little research
for that part number. It is not very expensive.
Hi,
Sorry that was a confusing view, it is of the door looking from the inside.
Here is a link to the site I use that shows all the views and parts breakdowns. Click on each one of the images and it will give you a bigger view. If the link does not work, it is partsdirect.com
Freezer Parts breakdown
There are other sites as well like repairclinic.com and appliancepartspros.com that have good breakdowns of the parts
Let me know if you have questions.
I see now that it is on the door handle. Is the overlay difficult to remove? How is it attached?
It is a pricey item so I wouldn't want to destroy it. What do you think?
Hi,
I have not replaced this part myself so not sure how easy it comes apart. I am guessing it snaps in but I do not want to mislead you. I cannot find a service manual that describes the proper procedures for this overlay
I appreciate all the information you gave me. However, I am wondering if another expert has had the experience of taking that overlay off. I will probably seek continued assistance from another expert. Thanks for your help.
You are welcome, although I have put some time into assisting you I fully understand that you need more than I can provide, I apologize I was not able to provide everything you need, this is not a real common repair so not one I have encountered.
Best wishes!

SOURCE: Kenmore Upright Freezer Model 253-9280810
is it possible the door has not been closed at some point?
If so they can build up with ice in the evaporator which the defrost system cannot handle....Try a manual defrost.
Depending on where the unit is installed high ambient temperature can drop the internal temp enough to set the alarm off though they will still freeze sufficiently
SOURCE: Freezer compressor runs steady & getting -30F
You probably have a defective thermostat or sensor for reading the temperature.
SOURCE: Kenmore upright freezer alarm sounds constantly
replace the battery in the grill or the hi-voltage control under the unit in the back

I have an upright Kenmore freezer #253.21741106. I need to replace the electronic control. I see by the diagram that the overlay needs to be removed to gain access. How is the overlay held in place? Does it snap off over peel off or what? I do not want to accidentally destroy it because it is a pricey item. What should I do?
Thanks for solution. I appreciate the indepth description of what needs to be done.
