the light is lit red because you have a message (it is the message waiting light)
if you want to get rid of the light, try either INTERCOM *700 then your extension number, or INTERCOM 700 your extension number

as for programming, if you press program, it wants to know what you want to do, so it asks you which feature you would like to program in the form of a 3 digit number

try pushing the intercom button again
