My printer prints with a smudged line through the text
My printer prints with a line down through the text, runs from the top to the bottom of the page and letters are missing in the line and it looks smudged. Have tried all the maintenance options like deep clean etc and this hasn't worked. It basically looks like i've rubbed a big vertical line down the page.

Man you did some awesome troubleshooting! I don't know, but it sounds like something is physically wrong with internal electronics. I'd call in the big dogs at Canon themselves. https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/contactus
pull out the black cartridge then get a tissue paper try pressing the nozzle again the tissue paper but not so hard then release look for the straight line that appear on the tissue paper if it is not change it
Run a 1/2 test. Put paper in the manual feed tray(tray 1). print something. And watch the paper. As the paper gets about 1/2 way into the printer, open the top cover, remove the toner. Look down at the paper. If you don't see smudged text, the fuser is probably bad. If you see the smudging, replace the toner.
Hello sir;The streak line from printing also should be from copy, because the line come from imaging unit, check the meter count if close to or over 50,000 then replace drum and drum blade, it will take care the problem.

Hi Friend,

1. Make sure the printer is turned on and the desired tractor is selected (the corresponding tractor arrow should be lit). 2. Open the upper cover. 3. Press the Top of Form button to enter top-of-form mode. The printer beeps once, and the Top of Form light turns on. 4. Use the Micro Feed buttons to feed the paper to the desired top-of-form position. The “A” on the ribbon protector shows you where the bottom edge of your first line of text will print. This position is based on the first printable line of text. If your software inserts a top margin of five lines, your text will actually print five lines below the top-of-form position. 5. Press the Top of Form button again to exit and save your new top-of-form position. Then close the top cover.
Post back with more details please, what OS, if attached to a pc, own refill or store bought, how old is cartridge, have you checked all printer settings? Have you cleaned you printheads? or ran allignment check?
