Bosch tankless hot water heater: Confort TOO HOT!!!
I have a Bosch tankless hot water heater: Confort S11 13 LP gas. I am supplying it from a cistern with a booster pump located 3 floors above. The water is too hot. If I mix enough cold at my single tap shower (with a 6-inch head) by the time I can tolerate the temp, it shuts off. Is their any way of regulating and lowering the max temperature. This is scaldingly dangerous.
Re: Bosch tankless hot water heater: Confort TOO HOT!!!
Look for a water temp control on unit. Otherwise a lower temp can be attained by having a higher water flow to minimize temperature buildup in heating coil.
Disconnect power supply cord and check wire
connections on gas valve and the two connectors
on the control board.
Flow water out of a hot water tap above the
minimum activation point of .8GPM. Measure
voltage at the gas valve wire connector. The
connector should measure 24VDC between the left
pair of wires and 24VDC between the right pair of
wires when the unit is operating. If voltage is not
correct, contact Bosch Water Heating for further
instruction.
Gas valve may be defective, contact Bosch
Water Heating for further instruction.
Verify that all manual gas shut off valves are open.
Verify gas type (See Fig. 2 in installation manual) corresponds with the type of gas supplied to the heater.
Reset error code and open a water tap to cycle the heater in
an effort to purge air from gas line (especially on new installations).
Cycling hot water tap on and off multiple times may be necessary. If
heater still faults with EA error code, have a licensed gas technician
properly purge air out of the gas line leading to the water heater.
Verify the three yellow wire connections to the set of electrodes (underside of the burner assembly) are secure.
Verify gas pressure meets specifications outlined in chapter 3.8. See Bulletin TWH-G2-03.
Verify venting meets specifications outlined in chapter 3.6 of
the installation manual. Improper venting may cause premature failure
of the flame sensor rod.
Observe inside the viewing window of the heat exchanger when a
hot water tap is opened. Sparking should be followed by a steady blue
flame. If not, Call Bosch Water Heating with observations. Readings
from above gas pressure test will be required.
Disconnect power supply cord. Check wire connections on back side
of fan and the two large wire connectors on the control unit. Removal
of lower access panel on control unit is necessary to access
connectors.
Verify that supply voltage is 120VAC and is properly grounded.
Verify that venting meets specifications outlined in chapter
3.6 of the installation manual. Long vent lengths, venting with more
than three elbows, blocked vent or combination venting may cause this
failure. Verify backdraft flapper inside flue gas collector is not
stuck shut.
Check gas pressure. See Bulletin TWH-G2-03. Low gas pressure may cause the fan to change its speed to meet desired temperature.
Possible defective control unit. Call Bosch Water Heating for further instructions.
Tankless heaters do not like back pressure from anti scalding devices in shower controls. Every time they compensate and shove more coldwater to the hot side so you don't get burned when someon is using the cold water elsewhere in the home, it can reduce the heater below it's minimum flow rate and shut it down. Nothing wrong with the heater. Ask kohler if there is a wy to disable the device without buying a new unit entirely.

The S 13 BP is a simple unit that does not have a pilot light. It uses electronic ignition on demand, which is what you hear clicking. If there is no gas going through and you've verified there is gas to the inlet, then it has to be the gas control valve.
Call a qualified service tech immediately. Gas explosion indicates dirty combustion parts, and gas is not fully igniting when tankless turns on the gas. So gas builds up and then explodes causing serious damage to tankless, and serious risk to homeowner.
LP pressure needed is no less than 11 inches of water column while all gas appliances are in operation. Info is in the installation manual near checking CO2 levels.
The 250 MUST have the condensate line connected. EC comes from gas supply problems and CO2 levels not being adjusted. LP units require 3/4" smooth gas pipe or 1" corrugated pipe minimum size. The LP regulator needs to be turned up to about 13 inches of water column and with all the gas appliances on, measure no less than 11 inches of water column. The CO2 levels must be measured by a qualified gas technician with a calibrated (with in 6 months) CO2 analyzer.
