SOURCE: Dishwasher Making Loud High Pitched Noise.
A loud high pitch whine while running the dishwasher means that there is something caught in the chopper assembly. To get to the chopper assembly you need to take the racks out and take the pump apart from the inside of the dishwasher. The chopper assembly looks like a metal grate with holes in it. And it might not even be stuck in the grate but somewhere in the pump area due to the water being pumped out, so the best idea is to take the whole thing apart and clean everywhere. However I do not recommend doing this unless you are completely certain you will remember where the screws and gaskets go, otherwise you risk damaging your pump or house from a leak or improper installation. You have been warned.

lost your tube that supplies water to upper spin rack? look in your strainer
SOURCE: Top spray not functioning in dishwasher
The top rack is not cleaning because of low water pressure from the wash motor to the upper spray arm.
Assuming
the top spray arms are clear of debris, remove the lower spray arm and lower feed tube to
access the wash motor. Remove the 4 torx screws and the filter
(accumulator assembly). Remove the torx screw and the inlet protector
that covers the chopper assembly. Make sure the chopper is not broken
(broken chopper will fill with debris and block water flow). While
holding the chopper blade, reach inside the "D" shaped opening on top
of the motor and spin the wheel/motor by hand in each direction to make
sure either the chopper gear or the motor gear that drives the chopper
is not broken. Replace the chopper if necessary (part # 8268383). If
the motor gear is broken, replace the sump and motor assembly (part #
8535150). Remove any debris from the sump area in the process.
You
don't have to shut the power off to the dishwasher because the door will be open, but if you feel more
comfortable, do so.
Good luck!

This may be the smell of Varnish used in motor winding. When we turn on the machine it gets heated a little bit resulting in a burning electrical smell.
